He’ll get that when he’s Captain - just wait and see.

Langdon is an excellent footballer. He is part of the magnificent four - Scharenberg, Crisp, Howe and Langdon - who are powering us toward our first finals series in five years. He makes the odd mistake, but rarely does he make the kind of howler that Howe achieves on a near-weekly basis.

Several times I’ve read here that Langdon was responsible for the goal Stringer gave off late in the third quarter. Yet the goal was 100% down to a shocking cross-ground turnover from Howe into the middle of the ground, which left his fellow defenders hopelessly exposed if they were doing the right thing at that moment, and creating options up the ground while we had possession. I’m not bashing Howe - he’s a star and a huge net contributor. But he makes more bad blues than Tommy.

Every defender will make mistakes and they’ll look costly when they do. Langdon makes fewer than most, and he’s one of the first picked when he is not injured. I love your work, Qld, but you’re on the wrong mount here.

^Agree re the Howe howler on the weekend. Opened us right up and it was hard to see what he was actually trying to do. Kicked it to the middle of a swarm of Bombers players.

Stringer is not easy to tackle. A fan near me lamented Langdon's tackling effort, but Stringer is a strong man and the damage was done by Howe's kick.

i thought that one was obviously Howe's fault. I thought the error that people were talking about was the fumble in the last quarter that led to stringer gathering and dishing to McGrath for the goal. That was one of the few examples of Scharenberg and Langdon getting in each others way causing them to be sloppy with the ball.

The point is that nearly all goals a team gets is from an error. And its likely to ocme from a defender. I think that is why Scharenberg is soooo good as a defender. He just so rarely chooses an option that tests his skills. This mean he nearly never makes errors, meaning he nearly never is criticized. Its just so rare for someone to have such amazing judgment. Langdon and Howe aren't as good as him, but they are all pretty good.

These mistakes though are pretty rare and need to be balanced against the number of times they end threats with their efforts.

Laird had a 43 disposal game but Dangerfield may top him. He had 33 disposals, 10 tackles and 3 goals.

Cripps had another big game for Carlton but in a 64 point loss.

Steven was best on ground, with 33 disposals @ 79% D/E and 2 goals..

Beamer was best for Brisbane - again. Three Hawks had more of the ball but their team lost by 33 points.

Coaches' votes leader, Max Gawn had a faily ordinary game, stats wise (17 disposals, no goals and 1 tackle), but comms are talking BoG.

I know it’s a hindsight comment but Miochek was a bad match up for McGovern. You need to be super fit and you need to have real smarts to take McGovern to places where he is ineffective. With all respect to Miiochek, he simply isn’t fit enough or smart / experienced enough at AFL level to take McGovern out of the game.

Looks like Dayne Beams will finish the highest placed current or former magpie on the coaches votes again. What will it be the 4th time this has happened in his 8th full season played ?
Maybe we need to recruit him as a coach to teach other midfielders how to play under adversity and still be a star.
As for P4S sniping about how bad a player he is go and have a look at the current 2008 draft redone and see how the then pick 29 would now be draft pick #2 if it was conducted today. Our pick 11 from that draft is now pick 7 an improvement as well (was a good draft for us)
Less games than other players P4S consider elite yet he has more career coaches votes more career Brownlow votes more career AA nominations, more club B&F wins more career goals basically more talent

I think you need to watch the game more closely - the Hawthorn midfield ran absolute riot, because Beams could not run the other way; he never could, which is why I never rated him. Mitchell, Shiels and O'Meara had well over 100 disposals between them and kicked 5 goals, mostly running off Beams. They also laid 22 tackles between them, mostly on him - which is why his DE was only 67%.

He might well be a good midfield coach, though - he's spent a lot of time standing around watching good payers run away from him.

So your telling the Hawks played 3 players on Beams ?
Heck no wonder the lions won leaving 2 others free all day
Clarkson must rate him through the roof to put his total midfield on 1 lions player that would be a AFL first
The Hawks midfield had more touches but they do that most weeks because that's there style of play they play keep em offs
At the end of the day he will play less games this season than Sidey and is likley to gain more coaches votes
That tells the story on how the coaches at every club rate particularly Clarkson
