I only watched the 2nd half of the VFL game yesterday on YouTube, thanks to Mr Bat, but from what I saw, it was our big bodied midfielders in Sier, Wills and de Goey, who absolutely monstered the opposition at stoppages, leading to a 130 point demolition of the scum. Given that ground ball clearances has been an area of weakness for us in the seniors - on Friday night the scum got the first 5 centre clearances giving them a 3 goal jump on us - I look forward to the day when we have de Goey and one of Wills or Sier at the centre bounce on the MCG. It would free up even more, players like Sidey, Pendles and Treloar to spend more time up forward. It could potentially be transformative to our whole team and our fortunes in 2018. I expect de Goey to return this week to face the Crows, but hopefully Wills and/or Sier will get their chance to join him sooner rather than later.

I am with you Rudeboy. I am hoping the Sier can play a mid role similar to another young player like Graham for Richmond.
I do fee that against quality midfeld opposition teams such as Adelaide players such as sier, jordy, wills can make such a bid difference and allow Sidebottom, Pendles and Treloar to play more time (and in doing so change the look of our forward setup).

While I appreciate the need for big bodied midfielders, we need speed and skill. So far JDG has shown these abilities.

It's hard to make a generalization when the oppostion was so weak. I agree with thr sentiments. I don't know enough about Sier to know about speed or skill and Wills tries to barge through a bit too much. Wills's injuries have meant he has lacked the opportunity to show us his wares so far.

Bright prospects however we need to mindful of the calibre of the oppostion yesterday.

I saw the 2nd, 3rd and a bit of the last quarter.

Thats the key to it Dave. The best big body mids are capable of being rested more in the forward line rather than off the ground.
They drag their smaller opponent down with then as a mismatch and thats when they do the most damage early ( before the defence gets a chance to reset )
To be fair, I think Collingwood identified the trend a couple years ago but we just havent had any luck with these guys developing yet.
As previously mentioned, De Goey is the pick because he is pretty good overhead.

In that shellacking of Northen Blues with a five goal hall Elliot did not rate a mention in Collingwood VFL best

But a BIG body did. Rupert Wills💥💥
