Just watched replay of fourth quarter and 11 goal kickers now not sure how the Doggies ran the game out but our boys full of run right to knock off time

I rated Murray very high and the comments from media doing game was his penetration out of back line went a long way to resurgence

Then figures on Treloar were mentioned—two player having that impact and many around them was encouraging

With Fasolo playing some VFL and Sier and McLarty putting their hands up I am more encouraged

Let’s see how we roll as the long season unfolds —keep the gunpowder dry just for a bit

Didn't see the game so I'm hoping the final 3 quarters were more an indication on the overall game than the first when we were well behind.

This game looks to have mirrored somewhat our preseason game against them in 2016 when we were 6 goals down at 1/2 time before going on to win by 2pts.

Of course we all know what happened from then on.

Great to hear Murray displayed the traits we drafted him for and that Cox was able to use his height advantage and take some grabs up forward.

Of course doing that on a damp MCG in the middle of winter will be the real test for him.

Apparently you have credibility on this website, surely lost after this pathetic post.

Finally, I've been saying for some time that our 2018 fortunes depend crucially on one player, Mason Cox, and yesterday strengthened that belief. If he gets good delivery and is able to run and jump at the ball, and pull down a few marks, kicking 2-3 goals each week, then we will have a very successful year, because he gives our team structure and confidence going forward. If he flops up forward, then we will flop with him.

not sure this outing is going to be indicative of his form throughout the year. it didn't hurt that his opponent for the entire game has never actually played a game of AFL footy......

Opponent doesn't matter much. It's a practise game, the effort and intensity isn't there, no matter who you're playing on. Rookies might actually be tougher than veterans.

Just like Gault's 5 goals a few years back, Mason's pre-season form means little. His form towards the end of last year was promising though.

Even though we kicked 8.1 in the last and 11.4 in the second half, we saw members complaining about our kicking for goal.

As I often mention, a game of AFL is over 4 quarters.

Compare with these final scores: Roos 8.10, Giants 9.17, Hawks 13.19 ... and in today's match, Brisbane is 2.9 in the third quarter. Smile

*Update. Lions 3.17 in the last quarter. Suns, way better: 5.7 Wink

On the contrary, I think it showed his improvement and continued development as a key forward/ruckman. The way he attacks and plucks the ball in a marking contest is getting better every run he has.
I said it last year, and I'll say it again, he is going to be a very damaging and dominant asset for the Pies for many years to come.

On a side note Corey Gault was sensational for Swan Districts in the WAFL last season and took out the Swan Medal for B & F.
At 199cm & 96kg, and still only 25 years of age... were we a bit hasty in judging the lad?

2017 stats;

22 games

408 disposals
114 marks
564 hitouts
38 tackles
11 goals

Good reading the posts since Qld67. Good perspectives on strengths and weaknesses. For me the main thing is we are not standing still. I see the Giants game, yesterday and the management of the young emerging and injured players as all parts of a piece. We may not make the 8 but I think the direction is there. Bring on Lynch and 19/20 is going to be good. This year is the prep, including VFL as rehearsal and development. Let's enjoy!

If this year is the prep, then Buckley better hurry up and find his best 22-26 squad. Surely he knows by now if the likes of Schaz, Aish, etc. are part of his plans. Time to let a core group play consistent footy together. I'm sick of our team make up being 25-40% different every week and year. Settle on a squad FFS coach.

Hammer you have nailed it, pardon the pun. If you look back over Buckley's tenure there never has been a settled side. Whether that is down to the coach or a result of many other factors is an interesting question worthy of discussion. I tend to think the latter. When you look back at 2010 the settled team had fantastic understanding and could play their way out of any situation. It takes a TEAM!

Smile just saw the Us vs the Dogs replay. One episode that's going to be talked about and was quite amusing was Tory Dickson running around all puffed up .....It may have been a lack of awareness but he just just ran into Grundy. Brody had every right to stand his ground and block his path he had no intention to hurt the bloke, Tory must have thought he was puffed up enough to take the bump ..........

which AFL team saw that and decided to pick him up?

Seriously mate, the standard drop is severe from AFL to ANYTHING else. There are many great local football players who are superstars in the pond in which they swim. doesnt mean he is of AFL quality.

Trelor had 14 tackles - that's gotta be close to a record isn't it?
