did he kick his first goal in the AFL. did they get around him. i hope so.

if Freeman can string some games together, there is hope for Treloar. I'm curious whether he still has his speed or has he shelved that side of his game.

Anyone watch him?

Yes, it was a set shot courtesy of a 50m penalty and his teammates got around him.

See the clip from 3:15 onwards.

Hine at his finest...

Does Hine get credit for early on offering BB a rookie spot, or discredit for not upgrading that offer to a regular spot when BB declined?

Really? Got a URL to validate that on BB?

I don’t know how to post the link but search for a post by me with title Coulda, Shouda Ben Brown

^ Here's the article about which dalyc previously posted a thread:

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/why-ben-brown-is-the-afl-s-best-draft-pick-20180427-p4zc0e.html

Quote:
...
In his TAC Cup year, Brown did his knee. He was on the radar of all clubs at the time as a promising tall, but he played more ruck than forward as an 18-year-old. But his knee reco cost him a chance at being drafted that year.

Collingwood were interested. They had a family connection to Brown through his uncle James Manson, the key forward and second ruck in the 1990 premiership team.
...

Collingwood recruiters Derek Hine and Jason Taylor met Brown and Manson at Manson’s bayside graphic design office and discussed with the pair the option of Ben coming to Melbourne, where Collingwood could help with his rehab and he could live with his uncle and study. They promised to rookie-list him the next year.

He declined. He thought if they liked him that much they should rookie him straight away. They declined.

Yes, I watched him. His field kicking was execrable, which is about what I remember from his couple of games in the VFL when he was getting back from his 15th or 16th hamstring at Collingwood. He's probably quick enough but he plays like a poor man's Fiora. I don't think there is much relevance to a comparison with Treloar - Treloar was a good AFL footballer to start with.

Which may be a problem for Adam Treloar, too.

Has he actually been delisted as stated above ? It’d seem a tough call after two games, unless he has done the hammy again.

no he hasn't. He just got omitted.

The author was inferring that if you get dropped from a team like St. Kilda it means you have no chance.

I think of it a different way. I think they are managing him. Two games on, one game off might be a good way to bring someone back from long term hammy. the problem in recovery seems to be fatigue. I dont mind that if it is a strategy.

Of course the author could be right and St Kilda may have seen enough to know he wont make it. I doubt that, but its possible.

To be honest, I watched a little bit of each game and didn't see much from him that would set the world on fire. He seemed slow, and (perhaps understandably) reticent to put his body on the line in contests. Sadly, I suspect his injuries may have detracted from whatever made him such a promising junior player.
