Interesting article, brings back memories of the manual telephone exchange at Tocumwal, one of the last in the country.
It was in the Post Office and was a larger version of what you see in the 40's movies of hotel switchboards. From within the town, to call anywhere you cranked a handle on the phone and told the operator the number you wanted. No keypad or dial. If I went with the parents to visit family in other towns, I'd look at the cream coloured phones with a number dial on front and wondered how they worked
I think it was in the early 80's when Toc finally got an automated exchange _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |
