It is a Very Good Question and I sit on get 3 Good Players as we have more then 1 Whole to fix to become a Good Side.

Only do a Lynch thing IF you think you are 1 Step Away from a Flag. Bit like we did at end of 2009 Season Getting Jolly(Don't Cound Ball as he was Drafted) after Getting Knocked out of the Finals in the Prelim.

Agree?

Where has getting Franklin and Tippet got Sydney?

Yeah they made a couple of GF's but didn't get the ultimate glory.

One player doesn't guarantee a flag.

But I want Lynch. The price has to be right though. And when you look at the Mayne debacle.....

Lots of rumours going around and plenty more to come. But if you believe everything you read on the internet, then we'll be going after Lynch. And Reid will be off to Sydney whilst Fasolo will be off to WCE.

So it could be a case of losing players too.

Not generally a fan of going flat out for one player - as Dave rightly says that is a topping up move when closing in on a flag and we ain't there yet.

As for the fears of losing Ried and Fas in the process . . .

The thinking behind this if true possibly is . . .

Both Ried and Fas are to a degree replaceable

But

Full grown power forwards DO NOT grow on trees.

Much will depend upon those earmarked within the playing group to replace them. If their development within the projected role meets or exceeds expectations then the club may well push the button.

If not then we may well pull the plug.

Lynch > Quentin Lynch + Young + Russell + White + Armstrong + Mayne.

So make that, Lynch is better than 6 players put together (and more)

Can't get a flag unless you are in a GF.
Can't win a flag when you finish 12 th.
Prefer to be at the big dance than also run.

the goal is to make each of the 22 components you have at your disposal as good as it can be. Almost always, 1 champion player is better than 3 league average players if you hope to win a flag.

But of course it depends what you mean by good. Are Darcy Moore, Brodie Grundy and Jordan De Goey good players? I would not give up those three good players to get Lynch as those three as a group as more valuable than Lynch. But we have them (and we have a tonne of "good" players who cant on their own straighten us up and allow us to attack the goals with confidence).

On the other hand, I would take Lynch in a heartbeat over Crisp, Greenwood and next year's number 5 draft pick!!! But that isn't even really the question.

in this situation, we get to keep everyone, and the only question is whether we want to pay him his salary demand to get him. Maybe we cant pay Crisp what he wants due to the cap crunch and we lose him and instead carry one extra league minimum player because we have to pay Lynch $1.5m instead of $1m..

if all we lose in a lynch trade is the salary cap space for one extra "good" player, then ohh boy, i just don't see ANY downside. He is one of the top 5 kpp forwards in the league. We desperately need one! we have many options at the decent but not great midfield/HBF level. if we lose one for an extra kid, it makes absolutely no difference. WTF are we talking about here?????

More than likely Goldsack's or Dunn's last year
Blair should be a no brainer
Fasolo, may possibly go
Greenwood, last chance but hopefully Aish or Brown will replace him
Mayne, can't see him staying
With these guys moving on and most of them on decent money, why debate anything?

Lynch would have 5-7 years at Collingwood, get it done if it's not done already

Gary Lyon is almost as much of a tool as Slobbo Robbo.

Of course the answer to the question is Lynch. Rolling Eyes

That would be a start... my preference is 3 very good players. Lynch would be great - but how can you miss with 3 x vgp
