It’s a shame, as we really have lost a great intensifier which once had a lot of power. Like all power, it fades with overuse. |
It still holds its true meaning though... when you tell that chick you wanna ^&*@ the $@#/ out of her and she reciprocates... ^&*@ yeah!! _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count. |

On a good day I’d say **** about 29 times I reckon, and I can do that in one sentence at the footy. It just rolls off the tongue unfortunately. I try to quit sometimes, I need a patch or a placebo. And gees when I hear my kids say it ugh, I hate it! Obviously my fault though. _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

You know, I'm kind of happy for there to be less taboo around words. It's kind of absurd that the exact same thing/act/idea can be expressed by synonyms, one of which happens to be 'acceptable' and one of which happens to be 'obscene'. Words can have offensive connotations, but I don't really see how that's the case with the f-word (or the c-word, for that matter). _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

^ oh I see that pretty differently. I think it’s part of the wonder of our language that we have so many shades of meaning including euphemism, obscenity, legalism, etc. and of course we all know that sex can have very offensive (and exciting and loving etc) connotations, so the language used around it matters. I don’t object to the word, which I once used fairly liberally like most of my generation. I just think it is a shame that in doing so I helped rob it of its force. It’s a bit like a star going out in the linguistic sky. I use it very rarely now. I just can’t see the point. _________________ Two more flags before I die! |
