Am I the only one who regrets the way this once-edgy and transgressive, once-powerful word has now become the most tired, overused word in the language, with nothing to take the place it used to occupy ? Seems a shame, really.

F-Word is just a Everyday Word Now.

I say the C-Word could be the New F-Word

I disagree, Dave - saying "Carlton" in public only has the desired impact on older Collingwood supporters - many younger people are impervious to it.

While it doesn't have the impact it once had, it has to be one of the most multi use words in the language.

I don't regret the loss of it's mystique, anyway with the current progressive doublethink in action there's plenty of terms you can use if you want to get horrified reactions. Wink Laughing

You complete [snip] whale, why would you say that?

There’s the proof that you can’t actually.

It’s certainly encouraging that one can get “imbetard” past the Mods. I must remember that. Wink

There's a few others you can get past, if you're prepared to be creative.

No one seems to have picked up 'Morotard' yet,

You can always go with some alliteration, such as Syphilitic Smegma Slurper or fall back on acronyms.

That is a rather sweeping generalization about people.

Lola reckons Ingmar (who is all of three years old) said it the other day. Parenting fail. Embarassed

Sharknado turned 2 yesterday. He already has 'Shit' as a staple and has at times rolled out the F bomb Confused

^ ingmar and sharknado kind of prove the point. What’s slightly odd is that the word means nothing, is wearyingly ubiquitous, yet it still carries a faint frisson in formal settings. It’s a shame, as we really have lost a great intensifier which once had a lot of power. Like all power, it fades with overuse.
