damn - what are these kids thinking? Are they bored, on drugs?

I wouldn't let it ruin your schedule if you can help it - perhaps the AFL are onto this and security will be beefed up

I say more Bored(School going back can't come Fast Enough)

People have said going from G to Richmond Station should be Fairly Safe with how many people be there.

Not by yourself IF you walked in the Botanical Gardens. Though I have done that walk a couple times after Night Games

if you're going with the crowd and you are around Collingwood supporters, I don't think you have anything to fear. Afterall after the game the Collingwood supporters are flocking outside the ground to go home so you are around Collingwood supporters. There are Collingwood supporters on the platform and on the train heading home. The only problem I see you might having is getting home from Frankston station but if someone is picking you up, I don't see you having a problem.

The MCG to Richmond station is about the safest part of Melbourne these days, plenty of heavily armed police in marked and unmarked vehicles

FFS Dave, this media fixation with 'African gangs' is creating unnecessary hysteria. I can tell you for a fact that there was a lot more violence going to and from games back in the 60s and 70s. In general, there were sharpie gangs in many suburbs and alcohol fueled violence was common place at pubs and other entertainment venues.

there were multiple fights inside the venues every quarter.
Sometimes more spectators watched the fights than the footy.
It was mayhem.
The African gangs had nothing on the anglo saxon footy fights.

^^^

While I agree there is an element of over the top paranoia, I think there is also a basic difference between gangs in the good ole days and gangs ( regardless of cultural backgrounds ) these days.
In the old days, you usually got touched up because you barracked for opposition or were identified as an outsider on " their " turf.
I don't remember to many gangs back then beating up on elderly people, tourists or young kids.
These days, because everyone carries a mobile phone and there is a financial win to be gained, none of these gangs discriminate as to whoever is on the end of a beating.
I think the " suburban " gangs have always been there going back to the late fifties but I just feel there is a far greater demographic that are likely to be subjected to random violence.
Look, if you let it rule your life, you would never walk out the front door.
You just got to hang with the masses and not look sideways. Sad but true.

Mate you're more likely to get shafted by guys in suits your whole life, than a 0.1% chance of attracting someone in a hoody. Besides, I've seen you kick a rubbish bin at the top of the stairs in Level 4 in the Ponsford after a game... they are in trouble if they pick you dude.
