I think this comes up every year but I've just cancelled foxtel and will be looking at options again.
To have a rant - the service is an overpriced, unversatile anchor. I don't think the afl learnt anything from the superleague debacle. I fail to see how stopping fans from watching their product helps their brand. The only sport I want is the AFL but I'm stuck with all the other rubbish for a premium price. The actual broadcast channel 'fox footy' is good but boy its not essential.
Foxtel now looks like an option and better value but still paying for 39 channels I don't want and you have to have a starter pack that is a quarter of the value of netflix.
Free to air is scheduled to show 3.5 games a week. Living on the Gold Coast that means that regularly 2 of those games will be Lions and Suns
Rolling Eyes .
It looks like I'll be listening to a lot of radio.
I think we have 3 more years of this deal but I'm not confident that it will change for the better after that - apparently twitter is interested - http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/could-afl-broadcast-rights-be-next-for-tech-giants-20170913-gygoh6.html as well as amazon. I'm hoping that Collingwood could create their own channel - thats a membership I could buy.
sigh
anyone else at the crossroads?

I'll have to keep a closer eye to nicks - the foxtel now option might happen when push comes to shove. It looks like I can get that down to $44 mth but its pretty much 44 for the AFL.
Does seven play replays on their streaming service? And does that take into account your location?
I can understand the AFL not broadcasting directly but its weird they don't list collingwood created content on their streaming app I wouldn't think the grind would cost them much.

Does the AFL website really not offer live streaming? I thought it did, though I've no idea of the price.

There is a Digital Insider membership package, with a subscription to AFL Live Pass if you are ok to watch the live telecast on a mobile device for $99. You also get full replays on larger devices (laptop, TV).

$65 a month for foxtel which includes the footy stations in high definition doesn't seem too expensive to me and the drama package on Netflix doesn't appeal to me and you don't gets the sports on Netflix.

How will I be watching the footy this year?

1. With optimistic trepidation;
2. In far too expensive seats;
3. With friends and, hopefully
4. Without deja vu in terms of the last few years in any case.

Otherwise (and on replay) through FTA and via Magpie Bat.

Interstate games if not on FTA through the local pub.

I've never had Foxtel and I'm still weighing my options but I can't justify the expense currently as I have two adult daughters to support Shocked Confused Wink

I have Foxtel have had for years we have the whole package as the Mrs likes the doco's and movies for me it's all sports.
I always record our games so I can watch them again as I want and sometimes watching a second time you see different things than the first time.
I will attend R7 at the Gabba and R15 on the Gold Coast plus 1 or 2 other games depending on if I can convince the wife going to Melbourne for a romantic weekend away can include a trip to the MCG for a couple hours of footy 😜😜😜
Last year was the first in a long time we didn't get down to Melbourne during the season for a live game because of other commitments but I won't let people's weddings or boring stuff like that happen again.
