I reckon that's close to our best 25....Kirby, Daicos & Brown may push a few out. _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count. |

Close
I think Cox will start at FF, Reid to CHF Moore to CHB Howe to HBF Langdon drops out. Think Sidey may spend a lot more time in the forward line in rotation with JDG and Wells and possibly Pendles as well.
Varcoe will slot into back line when we need more run or against a team with a smaller line up.
So basically only change is Cox in Langdon out and that maybe Goldie to the bench for Wills of we think we need a extra swingman in some games |

We have to transition much quicker than we have been if we are going to give our forwards a better chance of kicking winning scores.
I think we need speed, speed and more speed.... Speed across the halfback line, speed through the midfield and hard running half forward flankers (oh and stay at home tall forwards... )
So hold on to your hats, here is a fast moving magpie line up:-
B. Howe Dunne Scharenberg
HB Murray Moore Crisp
C Stephenson Treloar Varcoe
HF Sidebottom Reid Hoskin-Elliott
F Elliott Cox Degoey
Rucks Grundy Adams Maynard
Int Wells Pendlebury Wills Goldsack
Might be a bit early on Stevenson, but the boy has speed and talent to burn. Given a little time to adjust he is going to add a dimension of flair and creativity we just haven't seen in several years. Each time he gets ball in hand in or around the midfield he is going to be dangerous.
The bench is full of talent and flexibility (Pendlebury, Wells, Wills (who can also play a stopping role) and of course Mr Fixit himself, Tyson Goldsack...both back and forward.
Hurt sides with our ability to transition the ball quickly then after the first 20 minutes look to utilise some of our smarter more experienced play makers Pendlebury/Wells in areas where the opposition are proving vulnerable. Some good players miss out in this line up but that is what happens when the depth of the list starts to improve.
In any event I hope its a side worthy of consideration.... |

Can't believe people have Wills displacing Langdon in the side. Also Josh Daicos will be playing plenty of senior games in 2018. |

I like both (all tthree as a matter of fact). Langdon and Wills are both hard men that we need in the side. Wills when fit showed great presence in and around stoppages and his ability to drive with the ball in hand is an extra possetion and gives him time do deiiver to the best of our advantage + he is a great tackler.
Langdon may be slow but his football smarts are amoungst the best. He is a good kick and mark knows how to use his body on all opposition forawrds and doesn't take a step back. Daics is going to be a beauty but needs more development. As always Bucks will always point out that we have a best 30 and not a best 22 but picking a starting 22 is a great excersize. here we go.
mine is similar to Sir Alan of Didak's
with the exception of having Cox in and as much as I hate doing it Goldy out.

Agree. I love the pressure and aggression he brings to the side. _________________ carn the mighty pies! |

I can't believe that many of you are putting Sam Murray in Collingwood's best 22. He has yet to play an AFL match (for anyone). He is at best a talented player with the potential to be in our best 22 but at this stage it is unproven. He is in a similar position to Braydon Sier and Sam McLarty and perhaps a little ahead of Max Lynch and the boys we drafted in November.
I would not only consider players that some others have left out like Greenwood, Langdon and Phillips ahead of Murray, but also Callum Brown, Josh Thomas, Broomhead and even Oxley. If Murray plays a couple of blinders in the VFL early in the season then I would be happy to change my mind. _________________ Born and raised in Black and White |

Ummm.....I don't think so.
Try this:
B. Murray Dunne Howe
HB. Langdon Moore Crisp
C. Hoskin-Elliott Treloar Wells
HF. De Goey Reid Pendles
F. Sidey Cox Elliot
Folls: Grundy, Maynard, Adams
Inter: Phillips, Varcoe, Goldsack, Fasolo
Emer: Thomas, Wills, Broomhead
It's clear the plan is to play Moore in defence, so that's where I've placed him. Also, as people are no doubt sick of hearing me say it, I am yet to be convinced of the worth of either Scharenberg or Aish, which is why I haven't picked them in our best team. I truly hope they prove me wrong. Likewise, I hope we see players like Daicos, Kirby, C. Brown, McLarty, Stephenson and Murphy, pushing for selection at some stage of the year. |

Your quite right Dr Pie.
Broomy did a good job there V's Melbourne and could also be a candidate for that spot. On the back of everyone's mind is a desire for a speedy player to run out of our backline, you'll find that is the reason for naming Sam Murray. |

Seems like you guys are in furious agreement that neither Broomhead nor Aish are any good!
Not even an emergency for either of them. And many of you are asserting that an untried Murray is already better than Aish and Broomhead.
PS: I'd be surprised if Blair doesn't play round 1. _________________ Ohhh, the Premiership's a cakewalk ....... |

Are we discussing our best rd1 side this year, or our best side for 2018, because I think it's doubtful that Greenwood, Elliot and Fasolo are going to make it into the rd1 side. Murray is showing good preseason form and that's what you reward when you choose your rd1 side, so wouldn't surprise me at all if Murray gets selected to play rd1. Daicos should easily get a game rd1 also as he stands out in training, while Wills, Callum Brown, Oxley and Sier have no chance of playing rd1. With Stephenson, he looks good in everything he does in training, but he looks lost in the match sims. Going by that I think it will take at least half a season to break into the side. After that I think he will become a permanent feature in the team. |
