The bollards are magnificent; the square concrete blocks not so much. The bollards are designed to bring vehicles to a halt gradually (over about 0.2 seconds), so that pedestrians are protected but drivers aren’t killed. They disperse the force into the ground through an ingenious below-ground device. The concrete blocks, on the other hand, are just potentially lethal projectiles if they are hit with enough force.

These 2 incidents were exactly what the pro gun lobby was saying could happen when semi automatic weapons were being banned.

Interestingly Polaris "shopping centre" in Bundoora installed sort of bollards in front of the main entrance doors after being ram raided 3 times by dicks trying to steal ATM's.

They're two 1.5 long concrete blocks placed in a V formation opening toward the shops, with enough room for people to walk through the gap but not a car. They put decking on top to create bench seats and they actually look OK and would seriously **** with any standard vehicle trying to run through them.

It's not that hard.
