Australia never had a chance going into that game. Denmark and France were always going to draw nil-all and guarantee that they would both advance.

In the actual football, Messi kicked a nice goal, Javier M gave away a stupid penalty and then Argentina advanced - by the skin of their teeth - with a brilliant goal that, remarkably, Messi didn’t score or engineer.

Argentina were appalling, though, for much of the game. In 2014, they had a solid team with Di Maria and Messi. In 2018, they still have Messi but Di Maria seems to have become second rate and the rest of the team, despite some well-known names, look inferior to, say, Panama. Whilst it would be funny if they knocked France out in the round of 16, Messi will probably need a hat-trick. Diego would have set himself and got the 3; Messi isn’t quite special enough to do that - unlike Diego, he isn’t quite good enough to win the game when he is his team’s only quality player. In the other game Croatia did enough to send the Forces of Valhalla back to Reykjavik. They should account easily for Denmark.

Germany is kaput. A loss to South Korea has them failing to leave the Group Stage of a World Cup since 1214 BC.

Brazil is through, with Switzerland.

Sweden is through with Mexico, after beating Mexico.

LOL @ Germany.
Especially after their carry on after the winning goal against Sweden.
And the Brazilians are giving them heaps on Twitter Laughing

With the Aussies out, have to pick someone else to follow.
Maybe Sweden or Switzerland.
Hubby is going to follow England - I said that was like supporting Carlton.
