The result was a reflection of unwavering membership support, with our membership tally increasing to 75,985 (2016 – 74,819).

Pert's departure makes even more sense. How with 76,000 members, an iconic merchandising brand, an MCG presence and free to air TV access, how our club can't net 20 cents in the dollar (20%) which equates to $2,000,000 per annum is staggering.

Hey, with us losing so much money these days, can we go to the AFL for a handout?

While you bloody idiots start blaming everyone including Pert for not making enough money get a clue. I mean a real one. I mean why don't you blame Nathan Buckley as well.

If you want a womens ream, a netball team. and even a basketball team plus a VFL team how the hell are they meant to make mega bucks. On top of that not making finals cost the bottom line plus a poor attendance (by our standards) . Give yourselves an uppercut.

Overall a fair result.

If the Club was listed on the ASX there would be an investigation, the shareholders will be smashing in doors and demanding answers. We are not, we are a Professional Football team that has gone through some shit years.

The reality is people do not go and watch losers. Crowds have been dropping year after year with the lack of success. Winners are grinners and one only needs to look at the Premiers. Forget all the rhetoric coming out of the club, we simply need to perform on and off the field. It has to happen this year and yes the AFL can give us our money back under the equalisation funding.

The club's purpose is not to make profits, but to provide the best resources, support and opportunities for our football team to be successful.

Correct RB, in that I suggest they have failed. I expect a massive turnaround next year though.

We lost money by design. Rather than hand over our profits to the AFL we have instead spent it on upgrading our facilities and then booking the depreciation as a loss. It is not a real loss, it is clever accounting.

I was about to say, we actually made a decent profit before depreciation. This isn't a big deal.

But why the f&ck should the club carry that $$$ loss, if indeed incurred by these fledgling off-shoot teams?
Shouldn't this bullshit be under-written by the AFL to wear the debt?

Or is this some perverse tax-dodge/write-off engineered by our brain surgeons?

Exactly. Gets tiring social media sometimes when a blunt headline - created for this exact reason - sucks in the ignorant.

We aren't losing money because of crowds.

And all the financials above are stated for fact or public record in the AGM reports, to validate your opinions?
