Will agree with most here and give a thumbs down. The no.42 will be and should be reactivated someday but in that case to an outstanding player or potential Magpie great. _________________ he's an animal, what can u expect!!! |

I honestly thought that the famous No. 42 had been retired forever, as a mark of respect to Pants. To re-introduce his jumper may be seen as a way of keeping the memory alive, but surely it places added pressure on our No. 1 Draft Pick?. Surely they have enough pressure to deal with.
I say, leave it locked away. |

I agree this is a mistake, the number was retired for a reason and it should stay that way. I also agree with piesforever that it places uneccesary pressure on the kid. |

Listen up. Nobody, i repeat, Nobody on our list is fit to wear that jumper again. It was retired for a damn good reason.
When one of them can pick up 30+ possessions in a grand final with a broken thumb, and still be close to B.O.G. and actually win us another premiership, then i might entertain the idea before dismissing it for the idiocy it is.
I cannot believe Eddie would approve this blasphemy.
I have spoken.

I reckon it's a great idea. An excellent tribute.
Keeping it in mothballs does nothing.

Millane jumper out of mothballs
November 28, 2003 _ Fox Sports
COLLINGWOOD have taken their famed No.42 out of mothballs, handing Darren Millane's old guernsey to recruit Bill Morrison.
The jumper had not been worn by a Magpie since Millane was killed in a car accident in October 1991.
Morrison will be the first in a new club practice of giving each of top draft pick No.42 to wear in his first season.
"Darren Millane was a magnificent player and a great club man and we believe that it is very fitting for his number to be worn by the players who represent the future of the Collingwood Football Club," football manager Neil Balme said.
"I'm sure there will be a lot of Collingwood supporters happy to see the No.42 on the field again.
"Bill understands the significance of the jumper and we know he will wear it with great pride." _________________ Donny.

Tess, I don't recall the club asking anybody's permission to do this.
First they changed our jumper by reversing the stripes, with whose permission i might ask? Now they allocate the only retired jumper out to a "johnny come lately" draft pick. What would have happened if they gave it to Danny Roach?
Will be anxiously awaiting the back-lash from this little brainwave.
I admire the way this club invents something new each year to piss me off.

We are putting it on OUR number one recruit each year for only 1 year.
This is great because it makes that player feel like he is welcomed into the magpie tradition.
It also makes sure the guy can emulate millanes toughness... _________________ Are we ready for another tilt... |
