Post subject: Our Ruck TrioReply with quote

I haven't seen us do this, but it seems something worth trying to me ...

Centre Bounce/Throw: Ruck Cox, CHF Grundy, FF Moore

Straight after bounce/throw: Cox and Grundy swap, so Ruck Grundy, CHF Cox, FF Moore

Shortly thereafter: Cox and Moore swap, so Ruck Grundy, CHF Moore, FF Cox.

Grundy Rucks around the ground except inside F50 where Cox and Moore share ruck duties depending on how deep. Grundy patrols back 2/3s of ground.

Grundy and Moore provide the long kick target out of defence.

Seems to me that this plays to each player's strength:

Grundy - around the ground ruck (stamina)

Cox - centre bounce/throw and forward (no other hit up) target (limited stamina)

Moore - around the ground ruck (stamina) and marking target.

Also makes it a bit harder for defenders to keep track immediately after the centre bounce/throw.

Thoughts?

Sounds good tuff if you're losing the centre clearances.

What would Cox be doing if we lost the centre clearance? Not much anyway I would have thought, so I don't see much of a negative there.

Conversely, we potentially empty out of our forward line with Grundy moving into the centre and Cox (slowly) moving forward so that may actually be a positive when we win the centre clearance I would have thought.

^ the problem with losing the centre clearance is you now have the opposition ruckman running into his f50 to take a mark whilst our rucks are playing silly buggers changing at the other end of the ground. I don't like it.

He'd need to run faster than the ball!

Grundy would be starting at CHF with momentum towards the middle. I don't see a problem with Grundy covering him.

^ Thankyou Geek, that is 'Exhibit A' and it happens fairly regularly.

A nice slips catch by Jolly (not exactly using typical ruck attributes)!

I didn't see StK having the other ruckman coming in off CHF to cover Jolly so I don't think that this undermines my suggestion.

If you are losing clearances you are behind the eight ball to start with. I'm still unconvinced we would be any worse off in that situation with my suggestion.

I'll admit that it was really just an excuse to post some GF2 highlights
