I'm not sure whether my feelings towards Richmond would be more accurately described as jealousy or envy. I'm so sick of hearing YELLOW AND BLACK. If they win the Grand Final things will be intolerable. I try to console myself with the thought "At least it isn't Carlton."
But then I had a look at 2016's last round AFL ladder. Guess what. In 2016 Collingwood finished 12th and Richmond finished 13th. So last year we were a smidgin better than them, right? Well, this year they zoomed ahead and we stood still. What happened this year? Where did Richmond go so right? I can't really ask where did Collingwood go so wrong, because Collingwood's downward slide over the last few years has simply continued. At least we're consistent. |

Since our flag effort of 1958 the tigers have won 5 cups and we have won 2. They have a chance to make it 6 next week. Magpie supporters just don't realize that we are near bottom of the premiership bragging rights since the start of the modern era at around 1960. |

Doriswilgus, I don't care what Richmond's done in the last 40 years. I care that a team that finished one rung below us last year is challenging for the premiership this year, while we continue to languish.
And by the way, this thread that I started isn't specifically an anti-Buckley thread. I'm just stating a fact. A team that finished below us last year improved tremendously while we stagnated. Even Essendon shot past us. |

Since they last made the Grand Final in 1982 we've won two flags and they've won none.There's a whole generation of Richmond supporters under the age of 40 who have never seen them win a flag.I think that's a more relevant statistic than the one you provided.And why set 1960 as the beginning of the modern era,that's hardly modern to most people today. |

Are we any better? two premierships since 1958. Eddie keeps on talking about the Pies being a powerhouse of the competition. 13 of our 15 premierships occurred before 1959. Our second last premiership is now nearly 30 years ago.

To answer the question, last year was an anomaly for The Tigers.
The 3 years prior to that they made finals. Sure they didn't win any but at certain stages from 2013 - 2015 they played Top 4 footy.
When was the last time we played Top 4 Footy for an extended run?

Let's chill everybody. It's Damien Hardwick's moment. And, like Rocky and the bloke from On the Waterfront he's proved he's not a bum.
But for others the work is all in front of them. Nothing has been proved, or disproved beyond reasonable doubt. So let us not be mean to each other until...
For those lamenting the lack of premierships in our lives, remember how many times we shot ourselves in the foot, Rocca and Carman anyone? For those who think we will do a Footscray or do a Richmond - look at our history, it is most unlikely.
For those who would disparage Dave, his passion far outweighs yours.
I do not want any of the gang of 5, who won all the premierships from 1967 to 1989, to win another one. But at least it ain't Carlton. |
