Post subject: Looking back on Treloar Descion between Us and TigersReply with quote

Was thinking about this Last Nigh after Richmond made the Prelim.

Treloar said a Big Reason he Joined us instead of Richmond that he said we had a Better List. Well 2 seasons later it looks like he got that 1 very Wrong. We are a Bottom 6 Side and Tigers are a Top 4 side.

It might of been better for Richmond that they did NOT trade for Treloar as they would of Traded there 2 Years of 1st Rounders. These are the 2 Players they got with those Picks:

Daniel Rioli
Corey Ellis

Rioli has been Fantastic and Ellis is a Promising Prospect and then they Topped up well last Trade Period with Prestia and Caddy.

Well Treloar has been Fantastic for Us and is 1 of our Best Players BUT we did Trade 2 1st Rounders to get Treloar. Could it been better IF we kept those Picks and Got some Good Young Prospects instead?

Just something worth thinking about as I say there is no Right Answer but more something just to think about

Good to have you back, Dave.

It's going to be one of those conversations that becomes clearer as time goes on. We will need to look at Treloars career and the two Tigers kids careers also.
We will never likely know who Collingwood would have picked had we kept those picks. For mine, right now I have no regrets. Treloar is a professional and he will leave nothing behind to get the best out of himself. I don't think you can ask for much more.
Ironically, I was looking at Heath Shaws game against the Crows and had finally convinced myself that we will be remembered as the club who got the better of the deal between Shaw and Adams.
Yes we miss the Shaw of old but he isn't the same player anymore and I can't see Adams not improving further on the back of his 2017 finish.
We all love doing the comparisons but those comparisons are best made when both players careers are over or close to the end.

We had already come off a few years of hitting the draft pretty hard and losing games for being too young. What we needed was another elite player with already a few years in the system. Treloar was the perfect option. So we definitely did the right thing as there is much more risk going to the draft and a wait of 3-4 years before those players get anywhere near to elite.

If the choice was between Riolo and C.Ellis or Treloar, then the decision is simple. Treloar. Neither of those players are anywhere near elite at this stage. It's rare to get a Treloar level talent at pick 7 or worse. and the draft is always a risk (what if we ended up with another Freeman?) We wanted a top level talent and already had enough kids.

And also don't forget that we received pick 28 in that trade as well.

Another example that the draft is a risk, which is why taking Treloar over two unknown first round picks was the right move. You just don't pass up an opportunity like that.

Treloar is better than both Ellis and Rioli together so no harm done in the trade. Shouldn't judge Treloar on his second half of the season cause he was playing injured. If he can get his groins right he will win the Brownlow next year.

Carlton certainly screwed up getting Judd by selling the farm, but if we have Treloar at 26 years old inside our premiership window then it's a win.

But can we do that. That is the Question

So did Collingwood get it right then, and if not why? And if so we got it wrong, what would have been the best for us with hindsight, whatsinaname?

No mate, Treloar, like Buckley, got it wrong

If Bucks stays at Brisbane, he's a triple or even quadruple premiership player.

Treloar chooses Richmond, he's closer to a flag than at Eddiewood.

Both the Crows and swans would be far, far harder to beat than the woeful cats last night, and even then, the cats were still in the game at three quarter time. Both could well derail the Tigger train, tigers are now very cocky, maybe too cocky, and GFs are very different and tough to the creampuff effort they got last night. Not over yet, by a long shot. Surprised
