Just comparing our season to the sides that finished 7th & 8th.

Collingwood - 12 games against top 8 sides.
- played 3 of the top 4 twice
- only 1 game against; freo, north & brisbane.

Essendon - 8 against top 8 sides
- 1 top 4 side twice
- 2 games against freo & brisbane

West Coast - 9 against top 8 sides
- 1 top 4 side twice
- 2 games against freo

Would love to get a draw like Essendons next year.

I think you mean fixture.

We were ranked middle third for this year's fixture. We will be ranked bottom third for next year's fixture so should get a slightly better run.

The Tigers got a nice little leg up for finishing 13th last year too.

As a side issue, a number of clubs have had absolute stars of the game retire this year. I'm hoping that makes those teams a little more " gettable " next year also.

I started another thread like this.
My observation was that 5 teams finished below us - they therefore were the bottom 5 clubs.
We played all of the bottom 5 only once - Bris, GC, NM, Carl & Freo.
Our fixture for a "middle ranking" club of last year turned out way worse given the fluctuations of form this year.
How stiff do you have to be to have all sides below you only being played once?

So going by that we'll play .....

Either Geelong or Richmond twice, Essendon, Carlton, North & Melbourne twice.

Adelaide, GWS, Sydney, Port, West Coast, Saints, Dogs, Hawks, Freo, GC & Brisbane once.

I guess we should have tried to lose to the Dreamons to get a better draw then. A better draw still wouldn't have been worth the satisfaction of denying those cucumber sandwich eating toffs a finals berth!

Wouldn't have made any difference, we're in the bottom third at 13th on the ladder anyway.

I'd take that! Nice.

For AFL maximising $ you would think it is a monty for Rich, Ess and Car to be twice and we have requested an opening round versus Melb that may make Melb twice more likely (esp if they keep Queen's Birthday).

The AFL wouldn't let us get away with NO return games against interstate clubs (the whinging from other Victorian clubs would be deafening) so I suspect we will be more likely to play a second match against Freo or Brisbane rather than North.

Just wanted to add the Demons figures:
9 matches against top 8 teams
Only 1, yes ONE, top 4 team (Crows) played twice.
Also played Kangaroos & Blues twice (plus us).....

And when I add all of that up and then think of the fact that they missed the finals all I can think is bwahahahahahahaha

Good point.

Port were the only interstate side we played twice this year.

Agree with Skids, we got a shithouse fixture all round. I reckon the Pussies got a dream draw too, their first five games were pretty easy, we friggin copped both last yrs GF teams in the first three rounds ! Cats also have numerous games down at their little boutique pissing ground, that basically guarantees a top 8 finish every season ! For Chrissakes, we better get a damn better draw next season or the shit will really hit the fan !

Maybe the only reason those teams finished in the bottom 5 was because they only got to play us once?
