Thanks Sir Alan.
Duke, when Terry Waters started in 1963, he played at full forward and was a brilliant mark. Then along came Ian Graham and Doug Searle (who?) and Terry Waters was moved to the backline. I don't think he ever played at centre half forward. |

Your team is great but i still believe that Starca was by far the best CHF and in todays game he would have been better as he could run all day and so difficult for CHB to keep up .
In his day Starca was a real fitness nut and from that part alone way ahead of his time . _________________ THERE IS NO SHADING IT IS AS PLAIN AS BLACK AND WHITE THAT THERE IS ONLY BLACK AND WHITE |

During the 1990 season, a mate of mine who went every week was rabbiting on about Starcevich. I told him, watch him closely next week. He runs up to the wings to get the ball and then kicks it back to where he should be.
Next week he had changed his mind and agreed with me.
Inferior version of Jesse White IMHO. As CHF's in the past 50 years, I'd have ahead of him (in no particular order)

Ok, here is my attempt. Now, I haven't gone all the way back for 50 years, I decided to make the best team that I have seen play in the past 50 years. Which is to say since 1988. This was the year that I recall going to the footy regularly and paying real attention to the game, the team and the players. Prior to this date I cannot really include any players as I do not recall watching them play and therefore shouldn't put in a player that I have never seen just because I know they were magnificent Collingwood players, like your Greening, McKenna, Thompson, Carmen types etc. I still think that this team would win every premiership it contended, never conceding a single goal, racking up hundreds of contested possession, burning up the MCG, kicking dozens of goals and igniting the crowd. We could use this team right about now.
I won't comment on every player as to why they are there, I think the names speak for themselves. We all know who they are and why they are here. Damn this is a bloody good team. Here it is! Special mentions to Peter Daicos and Darren Millane, the two greatest Collingwood players I have seen with my two eyes.
B: J. Clement S. Prestigiacomo L. Davis
HB: H. Shaw B. Reid N. Maxwell
C: D. Millane N. Buckley G. Wright
HF: A. Didak T. Cloke D. Thomas
FF: P. Daicos A. Rocca G. Brown
RUCK: D. Monkhorst D. Swan S. Pendlebury
IC: T. Francis M. McGuane P. Williams
S. Burns
Emerg: S. Rocca S. Russell T. Shaw _________________ RED "BABY" CAVANAUGH: Didn't hear what the bet was.

That's a bit unfair to Starc. He's one of the few Collingwood players in my lifetime who can stand up and say that he played his greatest game in a Grand Final. The 40 minutes he played between being brought into the game by Matthews and being sent back out by that vile act of Daniher is the best 40 minutes of football ever played by a Collingwood player in a Granny. Jesse White isn fit to polish Starc's boots. |
