And rumoured that there could be a future roll with us as an offield person

I'm tipping that you are half right.
Speculation but there is a basis for it.
We all know what the dynamic between Malthouse and Buckley was at the time of the succession. Buckley is not going to say "I am not going to work with any successful people aligned to Malthouse" but apart from Pendles and Sidey and one or two others, that seems to be the case. It's human nature to avoid those that are close to your enemies. |

To suggest that Buckley would have any say whatsoever in who we appoint as a CEO is fanciful. The CEO runs the entire club. The coach runs the team.
To suggest that Buckley wouldn't work with Maxwell as he is 'aligned' with Malthouse is laughable. I'm sure you'd find that there is a great deal of mutual admiration and respect there.
Now that the AFL's 22 carat pantsmen have fallen on their swords, the timing is perfect for Pert to depart as there is a job to go to at League HQ which is perceived as a step up or sideways at least. He could leave and have it look like he's moving onto greener pastures, when the reality is it's time for him to move on as he must take some of the blame for the football manger debacle over the past few years. He would be a potential candidate for either of the roles.

I'd say Hine won't be far behind him. Not surprised Pert has done this now, given how close we are to draft/trade season.
