Changing the CEO makes for nice headlines but in reality a pencil pusher has little impact on our fortunes out on the field. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

Was he pushed to resign as a sacrificial lamb?
Me thinks that Eddie had something to do with that decision. Gary Pert was extremely emotional. Didn't like to see that. _________________ 'MADE IT LEGENDARY' |

Pert is the fall guy for now and McGuire is trying to satisfy the members thirst for change, whilst still being obsessed with retaining Buckley. The whole review of the club was designed to take the heat off the coach - but in AFL land it's not working. The coach is accountable for on field results and that's what supporters care about.
I would expect others to go, the announcement that the review has been a massive success and Buckley to be offered a 2 year contract.
The fact the reviewer is now the interim CEO smacks of cronyism. |

I can't say I'm disappointed with his resignation, but I do wish him well for the future.
I wonder what happens next now in whether there's more exits around the corner or whether this an aberration. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023 | |

This is actually a whole lot better than "The Club" in a lot of ways.
There's lot of people here who seem to be working out that this what their 900 bucks a year is paying for.
But you'll keep paying! |
A better class of meat pie and chips thank you very much and good company. _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |

Caroline Wilson's take on it (pretty reasonable account in my view)
".....The CEO was to shoulder some significant blame. Pert will not be the last to go but even if Nathan Buckley and his role in the Eddie McGuire grand plan is finished the president, with a renewed spring in his step, won't be among the casualties.
So Pert's preference for a dignified and - as as it turned out - somewhat grand and emotional exit suited everyone, certainly McGuire who invoked the 'Pollyanna' analogy to reiterate that he has never been more excited and invigorated as the self-dubbed AFL's "second youngest president" regarding Collingwood's future...."

Good article WPT, the first line
"In recent years keeping up with all the chess moves at Collingwood can be as challenging as the game plan Nathan Buckley himself has battled to put in place."
I don't like the way this is going to be honest. I don't think I've ever doubted Eddie, but I'm certainly starting too. I don't like the PR games either. Shuffling the non football department won't get us back on top.
Gees and then have a read of the article about west coasts coach! We can't cry victim here! _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

I detect an ever so subtle shift in mood around here.
Where has the McGuire fan club got to?
They're usually chest beating at times like this.

because it looks like deflection away from the coaching situation, and a lot of us are of the opinion that the last two wins, while good, dont really mean much, since we are all celler dwellers. _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

But Ed said that those wins don't mean anything. He will judge Buckley over the whole journey. Or Walsh will? Nah, it will be Ed who makes the call.
Here's what is going to happen. There is going to be a lot of "resignations". A clean slate in fact. Hine, Davoren, most of the assistant coaches etc. It looks like Gubby Allan is coming back from the looks of things.
Buckley is going to get at least another two years. It's Ed's footy club. The members have handed it to him in perpetuity. What would you do if you were him? Boot the bloke who you have built your whole vision around when we all know that the way the comp is structured these days you can bounce back very quickly. Seems pretty clear to me.
If the bounce doesn't eventuate in the next couple of years then it's no real loss. You are still elected unopposed. No one will ever stand up to you. If they do, give them a job conducting a review!
I for one am very curious to see what this 3, 5 or 10 year plan looks like. Will anyone get to see it? I got to see all the plans in 2012 in a private meeting. I found out all sorts of stuff that wasn't common knowledge. It didn't all turn out as promised.
The "Club 5" plan circa 2009 never really worked out either. But that's OK. You shouldn't judge people on past performance. It's the enthusiasm for the future that counts! _________________ Join the KOA at www.facebook.com/groups/knightsofabbotsford |
