Songs that invoke memories

Do you have a song or songs that, as soon as you hear them, you're transported to another time and relive a memory?

I have 1 in particular. Midnight Blue. I've told the story before and I'll tell it again later if we get some traction here.

I'm curious if it's just me that assigns a particular song to a specific memory and can't let go of that link.

There are some songs that I associate with certain people's weddings/receptions.

Everybody hurts - I love that song but it breaks my heart now, funeral of a friend who died after a grand mal seizure.

More years ago than I care to admit, I was in my twenties and horribly depressed, verging on suicidally depressed. I have no idea why after all these years, doubtless the love life and some monumental stuff-up. But the why doesn't matter. The point is, I remember driving home from one afternoon just about as low as a person can be, and bitterly regretting ... er ... I can't remember what now, but it seemed very serious at the time. It was the end.

The car radio was on, and a line from a song leapt out and grabbed me by the throat: "You're only human, you're supposed to make mistakes".

I turned it up. Actually it must have been a tape (no such thing as CDs back then) because I cranked the volume up and played it over and over again.

Fair dinkum, I reckon that song saved my life.

I'm a little off-topic, 'coz I don't remember anything in particular when I hear it now, I just turn the volume up to 11 and bop along. I never get depressed these days - say what you like about getting old, every decade is better than the one before and anyone who tells you otherwise isn't paying attention - but to this day, Billy Joel's You're only human never fails to gives me a big lift.

Footnote: Looking for a link to it just now, the first Youtube hit must be the original filmclip, which I have never seen before. Do yourself a favour: don't you watch it either. It is crass and juvenile in a way only Americans can manage and - worse! - it's on exactly that theme. Yuk! Completely wrecks a great song. The link above is a different one; one that leaves you free to populate the song with your own meaning. If I'd seen the original clip back in the day, it might still have saved my life, but only because I would have been too busy barfing to do anything silly.

Anything from ELO's greatest hits; Telephone line, Evil woman, Livin' Thing, Strange Magic.... not that you hear them often.
This was one of two 8 track cassettes me 'n my bro were left in pub car parks with when we were 10-12 (me) & 5-6 (bro). I used to get Mick back in the car and lock the doors if I saw anyone coming... hid under the dash countless times.
I love my old man, but those days were memorable for all the wrong reasons.
The other one was a Rod Stewart Album... Sailing was a fave.

Guns n Roses Knocking on heaven's door.

My then boyfriend wanted it played at his Dad's funeral, his Mum wasn't keen but relented to let their son have a say in his Dad's funeral.
The church guy (reverend/minster/pastor, whatever he was) ended up using that song choice to base his whole speech on - that you don't have to knock on Heaven's door, God is knocking on your door...

Always think of old Bill when I hear it.

You tube won�t work on my phone I�m in port melb with my sister so I can�t check em out but I thought I knew too much too young but it turns out it was young girl get out of my mind which I love but now I�ve read ALL the lyrics it�s creeped me out😂
