I think you're missing David's point - that is, we also treat animals cruelly for food. Yes, dogs are 'man's best friend' but in India for example, cows are sacred - what would an Indian forum be saying about the way Australian's kill & eat cows?? |
That's a good analogy. There's also a place in India where rats are worshipped and have their own temple. Yet here you can buy Ratsak on the shelves of every supermarket, which poisons them and gives them every bit as slow and painful a death as the dogs in Bali. As someone who's owned and loved rats, I can say they're as intelligent, friendly and loyal as dogs and obviously just as capable of experiencing pain and suffering. Yet, as necessary and unavoidable as pest control may be, most people here care little about how they die or are treated when alive (see science experiments).
Are we barbarians? I guess it's all relative, isn't it.

Yep. Surely cruelty to any animal is disgusting & should be frowned upon. I don't know how someone can think being cruel to a chicken/cow/fish etc is less disgusting than being cruel to a dog. Cruel is cruel. Full stop. |

and yet having asked a few on cruises they dont feel that way. the conditions and the pay are much better than they can earn at home, which is why they dont mind 9 months on, 3 months off. pretty sad though, that they need to do that.

Agree but they are on their as they are cheaper to employ than Barry from Broady. When we went on my last cruise which was full of rude Europeans the Balinese loved us. Especially as we speak Balinese and talked about Bali (Their home). |

Skids as you stated, you have never been there and this is not the daily occurrence from my frequent visits. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a paid set up and it would not be the first time the media has done shit like this. Never let the truth get in the way of a good story. Yes the locals eat dog, just like those in many other countries as they are poor people. Do the restaurants serve it up and say dog is chicken? For one the texture and taste are totally different and if a restaurant served it up it would be shamed on all the forums and go bust and keep in mind most restaurants are owned by ex pat Australians with Indonesian sponsors. |

So yes I like a good reality show, ok, bad ones too! Not the trashians, but I like a couple of housewives and yes, the terrible Abby lee dance mums! Here is a trash celebrity using her big name and her own money to try and stop this barbaric 'festival'.

She has also spoken on Capitol Hill in front of senators, and has a rescue centre in China, and has managed to get a lot of dogs out of China, it's not a food festival. It's a torture festival, thereis nothing humane, they torture the dogs (and other animals) as they believe adrenalin adds to the taste of the meat. I'd like to zap their $£$%^%%$ adrenalin glands I can tell you. @&$!S
