It doesn't always work out but taking a chance on something better is always the right direction to take rather than sticking with something that is shown to be not quite right because of the fear of uncertainty.
In the age of the top 8 any coach surviving beyond the point we have reached with Nathan is very unlikely. Given the solid foundation he had to build from I don't see any justification for the basic pass mark of finals not to be reached again in 2017.
The beautiful irony in all this is that Nathan himself has shown far more awareness of his situation than his supporters when he declared that he didn't expect to be reappointed should we not play finals.
Question now is does one E. McGuire have the same ability as the coach to make a frank and honest assessment of the situation based purely on the cold hard evidence of the past 6 seasons or will emotion win out? |
I expect the Board to extend Bucks contract, after considering all the facts, including an assessment of Buck's abilities from the senior players and others in the footy department. This will be an informed decision, unlike the kneejerk calls for his sacking from many armchair experts, who are unaware of the complexity of factors which determine success or failure on the football field. |
After all that's happened, how can you still think that. And knee jerk?!? Please. Look, I'm trying hard to not throw the boot in - imo we should all, as Bucks even said himself.. take a breath, and wait and see. I want him out, bad... real bad. But I must admit, the deep seeded regard for him as a player, has even me shedding a tear for the poor fellow, it just wasn't his time. Now lets wait and see what happens. |
I got to admit I'm in two minds now. The thought of his stoic face walking out the club. We have played some good football towards the end of the year. But we don't have the cattle to make it work. And that surely leads to the coaches door as well as the weird game plan. I need a crystal ball. I want to see the first two games from next year. Will the writing be on the wall? It's been six long years of going backwards. If only the mentor thing could have worked. I don't really think there was ever a real apprenticeship judging by Micks departure. Not much of Micks game plan or tactics remain. Mick was a defender start to finish. Now defence seems like the dumping ground for failed forwards. I do think though, that what ever happens is already decided. A flogging today or a miracle win won't change much. I'm not sad I can't go today, I hate geeeelong supporters with an over the top passion. They just pisss me off! And with two rounds to go, the bastards will fire. I've been to more losses than wins this year. That's sad. _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

Just having a wee whinge, but the number of wins saved on my TV set is 3, yes 3. I don't have Foxtel, and because they tend to show Giants and Swans games up here, all the Magpie wins get gazumped. It's a Blair of a season, I tell you, compared to an Abbott of a season last year... |

Had Tony Shaw been drinking or smoking something - I doubt these two could ever make a go of this sort of arrangement. _________________ Toby for President |

Tony Shaw certainly doesn't impress me as being the smartest tool in the shed. So to float this idea in the same week that Ross Lyon, Fremantle and Eddie Maguire emphatically and aggressively went after Brad Hardie for a similar claim as an outright fabricated lie, beggars belief. _________________ People forget that our last premiership was only 2010 and rebuilds take some time. 2018 we play finals again. |

Nathan Buckley will be head coach in 2018. That's what the players want, end of storey. _________________ People forget that our last premiership was only 2010 and rebuilds take some time. 2018 we play finals again. |

If you think that our coaching selection should be based solely upon what the players want then we're really screwed. |

Wasn't Lyon Roos' assistant when the Swans won the flag in 2005? |

A slightly different arrangement I would suggest. _________________ Toby for President |
