I recall a football team that was jaded and down on confidence after a horrendous 2004 and 2005. We turned up to season 2006 expecting more of the same and the slide to continue.

As much as I despise Malthouse, I give him full credit for debuting an 18 year old kid full of confidence, X factor and spark in Round 1 of 2006. We played Adelaide, and in that first quarter that kid took a big mark and had the temerity to dance around Andrew McLeod when he was standing the mark. We narrowly lost the game, but the exuberance and confidence of that 18 year old kid (Daisy Thomas) infectiously flowed through that entire team and may have cast the die for premiership glory 4 years later!!

Not saying that debuting Kirby will have the same result, but it may be the spark needed to raise the spirit of the team and lift the whole club out of the doldrums.
