Bugger Winmar, all I want is a bloody statue of the great Jock McHale, outside the MCG, the greatest coach of all time. If friggin Hungry Bartlett can get a statue, its damn high time ol Jock does. !

We look after the history of Victoria Park.
We are currently researching the history of the area pre-1838 as the site may be a significant Wurundjeri burial ground. It certainly was a significant corroboree site.

What tribe was Winmar from. Not that one.

Im not convinced the entire crowd was booing Winmar that day.

But someone said something to him.

I would certainly disagree that a forearm to the head can't do a lot of damage, and although it didn't appear to do so in this case, surely that was just a matter of chance?

A blow like that can, and has, easily break jaws and result in head trauma, both from the blow and hitting the floor

I guess it really depends on the force of the blow, like anything else – unlike a fist, a forearm can be accidental (particularly in a scuffle). Perhaps 'minor' was the wrong word, but the seriousness of domestic violence is not just about physical impact but also about premeditation, context, regularity and intent. This would seem to score low in most of those areas. Which is no excuse, he shouldn't have done it and seemingly copped the right penalty for it.

Lets me mindful of the times we live in .... Frankfurt School Cultural Marxist Political Correctness has become all pervasive throughout our culture.

Throw a rock in the air and you will hit half a dozen Social Justice Warrior types.

Nicky Winmar's achievements as a footballer are indeed admirable.

Its just that there are those out there that love to "virtue signal" and climb all aboard the Political Correctness Train.

Often these very people only offer lip service to the issue at hand, put very little of their own skin in the game and use the whole thing as a shaming tool for anyone that has an opinion or stance different to their.

No idea or not sure what I am talking about ... Use some of your GoogleFu and YouTube Fu to do your own research and learning.

Prometheus,

would you mind posting a trigger warning before further comments like this?
I needed to spend an hour in my safe space looking at puppy photos after I read you post.

We can thank Herbert Marcuse and others like him for being the godfather(s) of what we call 'Cultural Marxism'.

And a good thing, too. Of course, you'll find that the drive to put a statue of Winmar at Victoria Park has got nothing to do with "cultural Marxism" and everything to do with Collingwood-hating scum who would take any chance to erase our cultural history. They'd probably approve it for uranium mining if they thought they could get away with it - anything so they could dig up the pitch.

Sadly, a lot of truth to this.

For many it's just not about standing against racism, but a stand against Collingwood.

He played for St Kilda, give him one at Moorabbin or Seaford. Only Collingwood players at Vic Park.

I don't know you so what am I to assume?
You chose not to disavow the incident.
Instead, you intentionally downplayed the assault as a "relatively minor, one-off instance of domestic violence".
To me, it not a huge leap from this to "the bitch had it coming".

As for you calling the assault "minor".
Who are you to decide whether it was minor?
Perhaps the woman involved did not consider the assault minor at all?
Perhaps, at the time, she considered it pretty bloody major.

It does not matter what the woman involved thought of it. If law and morality are to be any use at all, they cannot be the property of victims.

Of course what the woman involved thought of it was relevant. Ever heard of victim impact statements?

Here's the statue they're thinking of putting up at St Kildas home base;

It's just an early design at this stage.

So 100 years of Collingwood at Victoria Park won't be commemorated by a giant statue that condemns Collingwood supporters as racists? So sad.
