I'm quite happy with no time, I think having the conviction on record will be the biggest thing, as Ronrat implies.

Bolt is not Robinson Crusoe when it comes to death threats. How many women journalists, opinion piece writers, game reviewers get death & rape threats etc.
Having said that, it was wrong & the culprits should be punished. I'm not too sure what the penalty should be though?
Being compelled to read Andrew Bolt continuously for 2 years would seem quite severe but apt.

Arrogant and self-justified losers like these probably consider a simple record a badge of honour. While we do not need to go overboard, they need to feel that a premeditated assault including criminal damage is a serious matter, and the punishment should hurt something they value. I'm very attracted by a sentence involving a substantial donation to a cause of Andrew Bolt's choosing.

I doubt they'd consider it a badge of honour if it effected their travel or employment prospects.
Of course, that depends on what kind of riff raff they actually are.
If they were just feral anarchists, they're unlikely to ever hold a job or earn enough money to travel anyway, so in that case a donation to a cause of Bolt's choosing would be apt.

Probably "Freedom of Speech Part 3" but I didn't quite have the heart to start a new thread.
A Green Bay Packers fan has commenced a proceeding in the US to strike down a Chicago Bears ban on opposition-team supporters expressing their free speech rights by wearing their own team colours on the sidelines at Soldier Field. To add to the intrigue, he apparently has a Bears season ticket and wants to wear his cheesehead at all Bears home games, come what may. |

Re the Bolt thing: are we certain that it wasn't a put-up? I wouldn't put it past that slime Bolt to organise the whole thing as a publicity stunt. Let's face it, he's been really battling for a headline these last few months and, as a career-enhancing move, it was perfect.
The only thing that makes me doubt it is that it seems to have been done pretty competently, which makes it all a bit beyond Bolt's intelligence. Still, stranger things have happened.

| If the story is true (which you'd have to doubt, given the underlying stupidity of what's alleged), the guy is the son of the owner of the van-hire company from which the weapon was rented, in this case. If that's right, you'd think that for so long as his dad is after him for ruining the business, the cops would be the least of his problems. |
