Be interested to see how they work it next year. In the past if it fell on a Wednesday it was the first game of the round, but now with Richmond v Melbourne wanting to have Anzac eve it will put a spanner in the works on a Tuesday evening, too early to be the first game of the round, Wednesday is too late to end the round. _________________ Human behavioural studies suggest people who use a lot of swear words tend to be more honest & trustworthy. |

ANZAC eve ends one round, ANZAC day starts the next? |

Just curious what others might think? |
This year was complicated by our 125 year celebrations dictating a Saturday match 2 weeks later. In contrast Essendon played on the Sunday that weekend.
Now there's an ANZAC eve match there's a sensible workaround to the shortened breaks simply by scheduling matches between the four sides (Coll, Ess, Melb, Rich) around any short breaks. Doing so may impact on queen's birthday and the dreamtime matches, but it doesn't necessarily have to. For example with the games being played on Tuesday and Wednesday next season we could see something like:
Thurs - Rich vs Coll
Fri - Ess vs Melb
Tues - Melb vs Rich
Wed - Coll vs Ess
Or alternatively:
Tues - Melb vs Rich
Wed - Coll vs Ess
Sun - Rich vs Coll
Sun - Ess vs Melb
While 3/4 day breaks are tight it's no different to the last time ANZAC day fell on a Wednesday. That year both Collingwood and Essendon entered ANZAC day off a 3 day break having played on the previous Saturday. |

With the stamina-sapping running required for today's football, I was already worrying about the 4 day turnaround before today's game. Basically, it means the gut runners like Sidey have to run the equivalent of two marathons (factoring the knocks, thumps, bumps they endure as they do the kms) in four days. It's asking a hell of a lot of an athlete.
I'm really not sure anymore if Anzac Day is worth it. It's a great occasion to be involved in, but the AFL need to ensure that the teams involved are not penalized by their scheduling. |

This only becomes an issue every 5 to 6 years when ANZAC Day falls during the middle of the week.
I think some are overreacting. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023 | |

Well if we miss the 8 by a game I’ll see if you think it’s an over-reaction. _________________ Four legged animals good, two legged animals better |

Agreed, the calendar anomaly is now banished for a few years.
Let's worry what the fixture looks like, when it rolls around again.
Who knows; 2 games in 4 days might be some other teams' problem by then... _________________ M I L L A N E 4 2 forever |

THREE day break is just insane, nuts, no wonder we ran outa legs, and were down 2 on bench. Why not play todays game on Monday night, as they did have Monday night footy games a few yrs ago, just play one, and at least give us a four day break. Dons were affected too, its not rocket science. _________________ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.

I hate Monday games as a rule, but perhaps not a silly idea in this instance.
Anyhoo the calendar has reset, worry about it in 5 or 6 years time now. _________________ M I L L A N E 4 2 forever |

Crazy talk, it’s the marquee game of the home and away season. We didn’t lose today because the had an extra day rest. We lost because they were better than us on the day. _________________ People forget that our last premiership was only 2010 and rebuilds take some time. 2018 we play finals again. |

The AFL Grand final and ANZAC day.
So is it worth it, to play in the second most exposed game of the season, at the expense of a few days less rest?
I say HELL YES.
You have to remember that it was Collingwood, not the AFL, that requested that third game be played on a Saturday, rather then the Sunday where Essendon played.
We would have had an extra days rest if not for the 125th year gala ball being on that night.
3 games in 13 days isn't that uncommon in the AFL.
There is also a little remedy to the short break problem after AD. Allow the Tigers and Dees to play every Anzac Day eve, and simply swap the fixtures the following week, so we play either the Tigers or Dees, and Essendon the other side.
Makes sense, but then again sense and the AFL don't go together too well at the moment. |
Sad Thing when it Lands on Tueday or Wednesday it really hurts us for the Next Round with a Quick Rest and not the Normal One _________________ I am Da Man |
