A lot of these are rucks, but some "outside the square" ideas:

Majak Daw: 26 years old. Could be a nice fit for back up ruck duties. Been playing more VFL than AFL recently. Could be an easier trade target.
Quote:
Forward/ruckman Majak Daw hauled in contested marks and split packs in an impressive three-goal effort.

Tom Bellchambers: 27 years old. Fighting with Leuenberger for the ruck duties at Essendon. Doubt he'd want to come here and play second fiddle to Grundy, but we are on the search for a good backup. Wouldn't cost a lot to trade.

Xavier Richards: 24 years old. Stop laughing will you. These are just ideas. Apparently he's going really well in the NEAFL. Not the VFL, not the SANFL, not the WAFL, but the NEAFL. So it'll be interesting to see if one of the AFL clubs thinks he's still worth anything? Could easily be rookie drafted.

Aaron Sandilands: Too old at 34 years of age. Would it be silly to suggest bringing him over to back up Grundy/ruck coach for a year? Is a free agent, but cant see playing anywhere else. Might retire.

Darcy Cameron: 21 years old. The new Nankervis. He is dominating in the seconds, but the Swans are yet to bring him in.
Quote:
The West Australian was finally given a chance after the disappointment of being overlooked in multiple drafts. Cameron provides some tall timber, as a genuine ruck choice or as a key forward. He should push for senior selection this year having impressed coaches over the pre-season with his athleticism and decision making.
A 203cm ruckman that can kick a goal too. Swans doubtful to give him up.

Other KPP players that were dropped recently:

Josh Jenkins. Was very good last year and now he's in the SANFL. Would have to be back in the Crows line up if they're serious about making it to the GF. 28 years old, doesn't mind a pinch hit in the ruck. But has he passed it?

Josh Schache. Has a terrible match in the NEAFL apparently. Not a good sign there. Still only 19 years old, but I wouldn't want to give up too much. Would be a difficult trade imo.

Josh Bruce. Still cant believe he was dropped. 24 years old. I think he could be AA quality. At 197cm, he's a great fit. But why have the Saints dropped him? Mind you he didn't have a great game in the VFL:
Quote:
Bruce was almost completely blanketed by best-afield Liam Jones (26 possessions and 15 marks).
But it seems the saints cant fit he and McCartin into the same team?

Tom Liberatore had a poor game in the VFL too just for interest sake.

And just for the fun of it:

Jonathan Giles. 29 years old. Played for Port, GWS, Essendon and now WCE. Could he be the man to back up Grundy? Cool

^

I'd chuck Richards a rookie contract.

^ Bucks is future coach

Being an armchair critic is the easiest job in the whole world. Of course you know more then the people in Collingwoods football department that do this full time over tens of years.

I suppose if you were head of the United Nations we would also have world peace.

We need 4 players that can play mobile ruck, key forward. Moore and Grundy are two of them - Moore has already shown he is capable of back up ruck duties and to be honest, with a bit more growth, could be number one ruck if needed. The reason I say we need 4 is so we can keep a tall at FF, CHF, ruck and one resting. When ever we have had only 3 in the team, we go through periods where we end up with only 2, one in ruck and one somewhere in forward line. The GWS and Hawthorn match saw us back to 2 only options - Moore in forward line and Grundy playing number one ruck. Whenever one was resting on bench we badly missed a tall presence in the forward line. I know 4 players like this would be hard to come by and may throw balance out, but those times when we are caught short on the paddock are telling. Yes, we won against Hawks but that was not because of a KPP kicking a bag of goals. - And I think Majak Dawe is an ideal fit - same mould as Grundy and Moore - big, mobile, has a ticker, can kick pretty good, busts packs open and contests, just need one more like them. - Standing by for the flak...

We really only need a power full forward imo. Let's not waste time on rejects or bit part players. Just go after the best available full forward - thru the draft, trading or free agency.

That'll be Casboult and/or S. Reid (via Free Agency). We wont be trading for the likes of J. Cameron or T. Walker, God I wish!. So who is the best available to us via trade?

We also need to address our depth players. Specifically someone that can help out in the ruck, that would be perfect. Basically, we need to upgrade Jesse White.

What are we going to do?

We are going to cull some dead wood from the forward line (no names here but their initials are "Blair" and "Fasolo") and replace then with

(a) An outstanding young ruckman who can play forward and just needs consistent game time to be a genuine star (his initials are "Mason Cox" and we can get him cheap), and

(b) either

(i) a proven quality defensive forward who tackles like a brick wall and scores goals too - there is a chap with the initials "Mayne" running around in the twos who claims to be all of that, so we give him a crack and see if he's telling us the truth or not, and if he's telling porkies, we give him the boot and go to

(ii) a small crumbing type youngster with genuine class. His initials are "Daicos".

Meanwhile, we play Moore up the ground as a CHF and wing with instructions to run around as much as he likes and play to his strength, which is to hit the ball moving and to avoid at all costs his weakness, which is to try and wrestle giant defenders in the goal square.

I reckon MacCartin may be distinctly available end of season, go for him.

On the bright side, it looks like Cloke will be dropped from the Bulldogs team this week. So all those who said he would thrive under a new coach may have to eat their words.

Club doesn't seem to agree. Or they sometimes do and then forget a week later. The indecision here has cost us more than any lack of KPF.

Our forward line's not too bad. It could maybe do with one more quality tall, but it could definitely do with us not picking near useless talls just cos. That's one thing we got right last round.

Don't agree at all. Cox will deliver. He's only played a handful of AFL games and he's like any other inexperienced player who just needs a bit more time in the AFL to adjust to the pace of the game. He offers more than Fasolo who had a shocker against Hawthorn and should be dropped for that performance.

Fasolo's our leading goal scorer isn't he?

I don't think Cox is good enough to cover his glaring flaws at the moment. He's almost always a clear negative. That's not the case with Fasolo. He has bad games, but we know he's capable of producing better and he mostly does.

That said, if the club believed in Cox I'd be happy for them to give him a run of games. Picking him and then dropping him one week later is no good for him or the team. It's been a major selection failure this season.

Bruce was St Kilda's leading scorer. He wasn't immune from being dropped and neither should Fasolo, if he's not performing. Cox offers a contest and he covers in the ruck, releasing Moore to spend more time in the forward line. Just needs to be persisted with.

Elliott is our leading goalscorer with 13 goals from 6 matches.

Fasolo is second with 12 goals from 9 matches.
