First priority should be to use any room in the cap to keep the players we want, so it may be a season where we bring no-one in.
If we did have room to bring someone in though, I think he ticks a few boxes.
- No trade required.
- Legit key position forward, not a defender turned forward, not a ruck resting forward. True power forward.
- Would only be on half what he is now, given his history.
If Hawthorn is sniffing we should be too.
The fact is we need a key forward. Cox has become an important player but even at his best he is not a traditional key forward who you can rely on to kick 40+ goals, which Patton has done. Given he is our second ruck as well we are over reliant on him and if he (or Grundy) are out, which has been the case, we're then without our only key forward. Mihocek is not a key forward either, he can be second but not first "tall". It's definitely a need, and we don't have the pick, or the time given this side is right in the window, to draft one.
With Grundy, Cox and Patton in the one team, Mihocek would never be relied upon as the main key forward.
If Grundy or Cox are injured we don't have to completely change our forward setup.
If Patton is injured, we still have Cox and Mihocek which has worked well.
And with all three, Cox could spend more time in the ruck and Grundy could rest forward more. Given the biggest improvement in his game this year has been his contested marking, that's a massive weapon that we're not utilising.
With Landon coming back, with Kelly coming through, and depending what we do with Scharenberg, it could be that the key forward we need is staring us in the face - Moore. But I take it the club is committed to him as a back, despite the amount of depth we'll have there.

Depends on what we do with players like Sier and Scharenberg, or even Thomas and WHE, and obviously Elliott.
If no-one leaves other than the obvious, probably can't afford anyone in. But if we can find 400k (which is reportedly what he is worth), this is where it should be used. |

A trade for Patton is required as he is contracted to GWS for 2020 on a $600,000 deal. Hawks have offered him a 2 year deal at $350,000-$400,000 and somehow GWS are going to acquiesce a trade for a meaningless late pick Tom Scully style.
Wish we could score one of those vs the highway robbery deal that forced us to cough up a 2nd round pick for Mr Columbia! _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum |

Didn't realise he was contracted. Either way if it would only take a late pick we should be up for that too if we have the room. |

He will go to Hawthorn as they will get his body right. We could not offer the same. |

And this is a problem that must be addressed. |

Yep, It’s “ public “ knowledge, Baz. Howard was playing decent footy for them up until about mid way through 2018. They have a lot tall defenders at Port, so I imagine they would entertain a trade. The reports coming through is that there a few clubs interested in him, so I guess we aren’t the only ones who think he has upside. |
