50 metre penalty.

Can someone please shed light on why the umpires awarded a 50m penalty to GWS at the 11 second mark of the first quarter after the collision of the two GWS players?? I just watched the replay again and can not work it out.

I think the umpires blamed one of our players for tunneling the GWS player,when the replay clearly showed that he fell over one of his team mates.But as we all know,the umpires are infallible and never get anything wrong.

What got me was the commentators not saying anything.
Why couldn't the video umpire have cleared that up when the game had stopped?

I had the AFL game page up on the PC to keep track of the basic stats.
Odd thing was that a free kick was not registered for GWS. Checked again a little later and it was still zero frees to GWS. Did the umpire blow the whistle for a free? Because if he didn't he can't give a 50m penalty. One must come before the other.

Wasn't a free kick - was a mark. No idea what the 50 was for. Maybe one of our boys got into the restricted zone to check if he was ok...

Yes it was just one baffling decision on an afternoon of baffling umpiring decisions.

Think about it, it was a 3 point loss, and there was this 50 and the bizarre review of the point late when we were running it out of defence I don't like to be paranoid but if it were any other team in the comp these would be discussed by the footy media all week.
