Trivia:
- This match will be played 125 years to the day since the Collingwood Football Club played its first ever game for premiership points, ironically enough in this very competition (then known as the VFA). Their opponent was, most appropriately, the Carlton Football Club, who had donated the home game rights to the then newly-formed Collingwood as a gesture of goodwill. On that day, the Blues were too good for the Magpies, running out winners 3.13 to 2.11 (behinds were recorded but not counted in the official scores). And the rest, as they say, is history...

- In a less well-known and/or useful piece of trivia, this will be the first time the Northern Blues have played on the hallowed and sacred turf of Victoria Park since Round 10 of 2011, back when they were called the Northern Bullants. On that day, the-then Bullants ran out winners 19.15.129 to 12.11.83. Since then, the now-Blues have only played away to Collingwood twice, both times on the Magpies' alternative VFL home grounds, the MCG and Olympic Park Oval.

Celebratory Activities:
Quote:
Pleasant Sunday
The Pleasant Sunday was a familiar ritual during the 1960s and 1970s at Victoria Park.

Now, on Sunday 7 May, 125 years to the day since Collingwood played its first ever game of football, we've arranged an old-fashioned 'Pleasant Sunday' at our spiritual home to mark the occasion.

When Collingwood’s VFL team meets the Northern Blues at 1pm, there will be food trucks and stalls on hand and past club greats will be available to sign copies of Champions of Collingwood.

Our archives committee will be on hand to assess or value any items of memorabilia you would like to show them, while there will be a competition for fans to wear their old Collingwood jumpers, with a prize going to the oldest jumper on show.

Over to you...

Might finally be able to get to this one.
Should be a fine weather wise day.
First VFL game at home this year.

The team!

VFL ROUND FOUR
Collingwood v Northern Blues
Sunday 7 May, 2017
Victoria Park, 1:00pm

B: Michael Chippendale, Sam McLarty, Matthew Scharenberg
HB: Liam Mackie, Jesse White, Nick Gray
C: James Aish, Josh Thomas, Jarryd Blair
HF: Ben Crocker, Lachlan Keeffe, Callum Brown
F: Josh Daicos, Chris Mayne, Kayle Kirby
Foll: Max Lynch, Tim Broomhead, Rupert Wills
Int (from): Gus Borthwick, Lachlan Tardrew, Jordan Collopy, Stephen Tahana, Jackson Starcevich, Jordan Kelly, Marty Hore, Campbell Lane*, Dale Hinkley

Daicos returns to strut his stuff on the hallowed truf of Victoria Park for the first time, alongside fellow Father-Son Brown. But still no McCarthy or Oxley...

And Starcevich named for the first time as a VFL Magpie! And just in the nick of time to join the other two sons of premiership player fathers! The dream comes true!

(EDIT: Campbell Lane, a lifelong Collingwood supporter, will be our 23rd man. The romance never stops!)

That's the Starcevich who was drafted to Brisbane a few years back?

He was never drafted to Brisbane, IIRC. Played for their NEAFL side, then Claremont, then Redland, then spent some time in the NTFL.

But yes, this is the same Starcevich we overlooked as a Father-Son 5 years ago...

Hey Batfella, I notice that White has been named in the backline. Do you know if he played there last week?
IIRC he played a few games in the backline in the VFL last year and seemed to gain some confidence and form from the experience before returning to the senior side.

I was there last week, npalm. He played forward (with a fair bit of time in the ruck).

Personally, I hope we swap White and Keeffe around from what has been named...

Looking at local footy teams from yesterday, Collopy and surprisingly Kelly can be discounted from our the selected side.

Didn't play:
Michael Chippendale (De La Salle)
Jackson Starcevich (Northcote Park)
Marty Hore (Northcote Park)
Dale Hinkley (Uni Blues)
Gus Borthwick (Old Melburnians)
Lachlan Tardrew (Sandhurst)
Stephen Tahana (Vermont)
Campbell Lane* (Old Xaverians)

Played:
Jordan Collopy (Northcote Park)
Jordan Kelly (Old Xaverians)

On slightly related and positive note Ash Close has now played 4 games this year in local footy for 15 goals.

Ted Potter rings the old Victoria Park bell to send the teams to their final huddles.

Blues win the toss, which means we're kicking to the Sherrin Stand end.

And so, now, the circle is now complete. Everything old is new again.

On this, the 125th anniversary of our on-field birth, it's time to make a stand for the Collingwood name and the Collingwood jumper.

Happy Birthday, Collingwood!

The 125th anniversary celbration game is UNDERWAY AT VICTORIA PARK!!!
