Only one contested mark for Cox, but it was an important one - nice grab coming out of defence when we were under pressure in the last. If he could hold more marks overhead he's be a dangerous player, just hasn't looked like it so far in his career.

I noticed someone posted that Shady should be dropped.

What's he gotta do ?

Kept Hawkins to 1 goal and his DE% was 92.6

Great win - especially pleasing to see us take risks and move the ball well through the guts.

Was it just me or did Selwood have some choice words to Pendles right at the end of the game? Pendles looked like he took the high road and extended a handshake anyway.

Yeah it happened.
I'm surprised he didn't duck his head into pendles stomach.

So good to see Wells out there and having the impact we always expected. Not bad seeing Jamie either.

This game was simply a great team performance. Our team defence was more impressive than the improved ball movement and scoring. Kept the Cats to 78 when they'd not scored under 100 all year. One on one our defence would have struggled badly, but we put on enough pressure and covered well.

I'd like to hear from all those who whinged and moaned about "WASTING"??? money on Wells. What a super star.He held us together in the last qtr when we could quite easily have capitulated.

Everyone knew that Wells was an A grader.
The issue was whether he coukd standup fitness wise.
And the second whether getting an ageing star fitted into our window of opportunity re flag

Just have a red hot go, not the shit they've been producing these past few weeks, FFS!

And that's all I demand from the players each week, on behalf of the supporters that turn up each week.

Great win. Last quarter nerves. Next week Out Cox & Varcoe??? In Reid & DeGoey

Didn't look nervy, just very tired! They are the obvious out&ins for caaaaarlton. Thought that was Varcoe's best and most important game for us yet, despite only lasting 2&1/2 quarters before that injury. Cox was okay, but cost us a few goals; he or Schade need a spell in the VFL.

If Adams could kick more consistently he's be a gun.

Thought he redeemed himself somewhat today. And if he would only hit the targets inside 50s, we'd be absolutely demoralising other sides.

Those 2 decisions in favour of Hawkins in the last quarter were disgraceful. Without those, we win by 8 goals.

And the umpiring fraternity probably wonder why we think they are bunch of inept cheating flogs.

That sounds like a threat!

Dunn played mainly on Hawkins I thought.

Yep, this presumably will allow Reid to go forward if needed or Dunn himself.

Who then goes out for Reid?

JDG will replace Varcoe I guess.

Shady
Lane did ok, though it was a facepalm moment in the last. The kid can play, and we should invest games in him. He and Dunn both look ok, and maybe Reid can play forward.

From defence, I also really liked Maynard's game. He could easily have had three goals with that raking left boot.

Wow that was aesome to watch. That's the Pies we want to see. Took the game on, backed themselves, and played instinctively. The feeling I had for most of the match went from seeing how much we could stretch the margin before the game was safe, to actually thinking we could blow the Cats away in the last. You could sense the players were thinking the same as their confidence started growing.

How obvious was it in the last quarter when the umps decided to come off the bench with the hoops on. Not that we weren't expecting it. Nice try anyway.

Some comments on players that I thought stood out:

Smith, Dunne, Howe - very solid. The backline looked much more organised.
Maynard - this kid is coming along nicely. His kicking is improving, and his tenacity at the contest is awesome.
Wells - smooth mover with an extra gear, good decision maker, sublime skills. We are blessed to have him in our stripes.
Crisp - thought he was great today, both inside and out.
Grundy - was great all day, and at his best he's like an extra midfielder.
Fasolo - nailed a couple of beauties, but would love him to be able to compete better one-on-one against his defender, especially with the ground balls.
Moore - much much better. Had a lot of energy, worked hard all day, and looked dangerous. Laced out Cox with a becautiful 40m pass into the pocket that Cox muffed.
WHE - nice skills, similar to Fas in that he could be better in the contest.
Pendles - welcome back. Was awesome for us today.
Varcoe - streaming through the centre is a sight to behold. Love this guy.

Come on Pies. Let's build on this. The team has enough talent to scare anyone.
