^ If Marseilles has become a "harbour of spite", the reason is probably that this great fortress city is where the clash between the Arab world and French culture has come to the boil : it is a boiling pot into which France has thrown itself via dreadful and lax immigration policy. Who is to blame for that clash is a matter of history, but what is clear is that Marseilles - once a centre of Republican sentiment and the source of that great anthem - now stands for France's position on the front line of the clash between Western culture and the Arab world.
As an aside, his French must be truly affreux if he thinks a "chambray" shirt is a "chambre" shirt. Quelle chemise !! _________________ Two more flags before I die! |

I think Macron and Le Pen will go through with Macron prevailing and becoming the new President of France. God help France if Melenchon somehow makes it to the second round. |

France needs Le Pen, but this is one of the most leftist countries in Europe. Still, polls had Hillary in a landslide and Brexit as no chance so I'm still hoping that France has some life in it and wont commit cultural suicide like Germany and Sweden. |

gotta love some people's understanding of democracy. ie, it's all good for the people to vote, as long as they agree with me. If they vote for someone else, it's toys out of the cot time.
The 'left' are making a habit of this. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

^ Yes, this is what happens when people convince themselves that they are not only correct, but also (and this is the horrible bit) morally good because of what they believe.
When you convince yourself of that, you can believe that your opponents are bad, and need to be punished and controlled by your goodness.
That's why, in history, the puritans tend to hold the best human barbecues. And the modern left are very much the new puritans. _________________ Two more flags before I die! |

Really? France has a pretty deeply conservative streak Germany, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands and the Scandinavian countries are all well to the left of them, I'd say. In some ways the French are even to the right of Australia. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

^ yes, that's quite true. France's Leftism is of a very conservative kind : class war, strong unions, very high employment protection, high social spending, etc. The roots of this French conservatism are interesting. I suspect it either goes back to the chaotic revolutions of 1789, 1848 and 1870, or (more probably) to the destabilising conflicts (and latterly collaboration) with Germany in 1870, 1914 and 1940. _________________ Two more flags before I die! |
