Dunno,

The i5 is good, can you do the i7?

Why Windows 7?

Rest of it, NFI. I didn't see how big the hard drive was or how much RAM, maybe I missed those bits. Graphics cards mean nothing to me as I'm not a gamer.

OK.

I bought a lenovo a few months back from Harvey Norman. I can't remember it was $700 or $900 but has 2TB hard drive (I assume you meant 4TB, not 4gb), 12gb Ram and an i5 6400 CPU at 2.7 GHz which is plenty fast enough for me.

Like Woods said, unless your doing hardcore gaming (which you probably can't with your internet speed) or doing serious work using memory hungry software, $2k is a lot to spend on a PC.

I do play Games. Especially with Emulation. Emulators need very good/strong CPU. 2.7ghz would not be enough.

Yeah it not just a normal PC for Normal Use. The 1 you got would be fine for Non-Gamers/Non-Gaming Use.

These are the Emulators I am upgrading for:

You can upgrade the CPU, RAM and video card down the track. Go Windows 10 with the new system. I like Windows 7 but it's being left behind with the new hardware.

Very True. I do like with Desktops that you can Update single things and not the Whole Computer(Like a Mac).

Yeah. That is why I choose to get Windows 10 as yeah you are always behind when new stuff comes out might not work on 7,

Good specs on the whole, Dave.

i7 is very poor value for money. i3 or i5 is a better choice for almost all purposes. (For you, i5.)

A wireless network card is completely bloody pointless in a desktop system (saving only the circumstance where you really, really can't reach the system with a cable.) A network cable is much faster, much more reliable, much cheaper, and much, much more secure. Spending $168 on a network card is downright insane.

The standard CPU cooler (free with the CPU) is perfectly sufficient for all normal purposes.

16MB RAM is not really necessary with an SSD, except for stupidly hungry software, such as Photoshop or (in your case) some games.

Windows 10 is a complete farnarkling disaster. Insist on 7 or (better yet) 8.1 - the fastest of all Windows versions.

You need a $135 monitor like a hole in the head. Yuk! Ouch! Awful!

Right, I've just saved you $213 which would have been completely wasted on unnecessary cooling and slower, less reliable networking. Spend at least half that amount upgrading to a decent screen. Don't spend your life looking at eye-damaging carp! A quality monitor is your FIRST priority, not the last one. Every bloody time.

Are you going to LAN parties where you only have wireless connections, and (if so) is LAN speed the be-all and end-all of your ability to compete?

(a) If yes: you need a wireless LAN card. They usually cost about $50. God only knows what advantage (if any) that diamond-studded $168 platinum-plated monstrosity will give you other that a much lighter back pocket. Quite possibly none.

(b) If no: don't even think about it.

Extra CPU cooler is needed only if you are seriously overclocking and/or pushing the system very hard. Otherwise, it's just expensive wank. Beware of salesmen and gamers: they talk more wank than a drunken Nickster in the post-match thread after a 91 point loss.

Most of what you have is pretty good Dave. So your advice is 80% good so far.

But do yourself a favour. Go somewhere where they have a good range of screens and look - really look hard - at a few of them. Put up a screen of plain black and white text, nice and small. Look for sharp edges, no colour fringes. Move from side to side and look at it from the angles. Does the colour change? Is the brightness really stable? Is the colour accurate? (Most are too harsh and bright - they look great at first but after an hour or two they hurt your eyes.) Be fussy. Look hard. Your own eyes will tell you which is the best one. Don't be afraid to spend a bit more. You can upgrade your RAM anytime, but you will have that screen for years. Get a good one.

Interesting you ask different people about computer and you get that many Different Answers

I already have a better Screen so I might swap by Putting the Better Screen on the New PC and that Screen on the old PC
