Post subject: New role for Maynard?? | |
|
I must say that I'm not one of his biggest fans, but I think a new role further up the ground (wing/half forward) might be able to utilise some of his strengths whilst being able to absorb some of his deficiencies without it impacting to much on the scoreboard.
He can kick long and is fast so hopefully we can use that to his and the teams benefit.

Cant recall if he is any good overhead. If he is, then yes, because he is tough, mobile and has a booming kick. I'd play him on the HF line if he can take a contested mark. _________________ Two more flags before I die! |

Play him in the middle as an inside contested mid to support Pendles and Treloar. Drop Crisp until he finds some form. Play Scharenberg on the half back line to replace Maynard there. |

Hasn't got the tank yet. Leave him back and settle that back 6. _________________ Get back on top. |

He is the only one that'll physically get stuck into the opposition. I love that about him, I say why not. Send home forward to stir the opposing back lines. |

One of the worst decision makers with ball in hand and disposal amplifies the deficiencies as a whole. Would be a better player in a team that doesn't need him to hit a target. Come to think of it you can add 15 others to the list as well. _________________ no second chances |

I am so desperate for ANY MOVE to get made by our $2,000,000 per year coaching group that I'd crack a fat if Keefe was moved to the mid-field, Smith in the Ruck and Fasolo to Full Back

I said exactly this in a conversation today. Good contested player but also has pace. Can't be worse than Crisp on the weekend anyway! |

Can't hurt, he's not afraid to go smashing in there, bigger and faster than Blair, why not?
I'm really hanging out to see Scharenburg out there, since I'd get to 1 VFL game every three years or do, he's like those mythical magical creatures in the Disney movies, I'm expecting him to run through the banner with an eye burning halo around his entire body. I can hear the jaws music as he goes into battle to defend for the first time.
I just hope I don't get Mr Bean instead. _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

His decision making is questionable which is why I think his deficiencies won't be as costly as when playing in defence.
We do have to start doing something different otherwise we will not be anywhere near the top 8 this year. _________________ - Side By Side - |

I don't think Maynard is experienced enough yet to move off the back flank where his decision making deficiencies are less exposed. He is quick, good at winning one-on-one contests and displays great desperation and application to his defensive job. We need to maintain some stability in the defensive six or seven to continue to develop that team within a team.
Unfortunately Maynard is not a good decision maker so lets keep it simple and allow him the stability to continue to develop and contribute to the team as an attacking defender providing run off the half back line.
Collingwood already has the deepest midfield team in the AFL, no need to "rob Peter to pay Paul" yet. _________________ Collingwood Domination. Envy of the Nation! |

I agree, many on here continue to call for his head I don't know...he actually had a crack against St.Kilda.... in the last quarter his run and effort was pleasing.....very few of his team mates made as much effort ....even Grundy said he was one of the better players.
I would leave him in the backline. yes he still have alot to learn and yes he still makes mistakes. Would prefer he works on his craft. _________________ "To know nothing of events before your birth, is to forever remain a child" - Cicero (Roman Lawyer/Senator) 46 BCE. |

I think he's improving. No need to reinvent the wheel, leave him ply his trade. _________________ Brown re his GF omission:

Needs to improve kicking to a target that's why I would drop him to the vfl for a couple of weeks then bring him back to senior level |

If we were going to drop players for poor disposal efficiency I think just about our entire 22 would be back playing VFL. _________________ "To know nothing of events before your birth, is to forever remain a child" - Cicero (Roman Lawyer/Senator) 46 BCE. |
