Does anyone think that Bucks has improved as a coach at all since taking over in 2012?

That's the question.

A big YES. Without doubt. There has been improvement across the whole club. We are competitive and consistent every week this year.
People say "All I want is effort" or "all I ask for is consistency". Werll we are getting these in spades this year. A few more wins would be nice granted but they will come.

Yes, I do believe he has improved this year.
The stop start game has given way to a more attacking type play.
The zoning has been less and more man on man has been employed.
He has dropped Blair but for how long?
He went to Standford USA last year and came back with the idea that his micro managing wasn't doing any good , so no doubt, the line coaches are having more impact.
But it should not have taken 6 years to find this out.
The problem I have is his lack of flair, lack of game day smarts and his sheer
arrogant attitude in persisting with things that are not working.
On Monday he picked Callum Brown.
A skinny underdone player who may one day become a future star.
Now I would have went for Kayle Kirby ...a fat over confident indigenous player.
I have no doubt Callum had done everything right.
But Kirby hadn't......he is still too fat.
But yesterday was a final match for both teams.
On balance, Kirby had a bigger chance of making an impact than Callum.
We need a player like Kirby who can kick goals and have the X factor.
But we chose Callum who had ticked all the boxes in terms of completing the set tasks as set down by the coach.
We didn't take the maverick decision in picking Kirby.
Bux is too predictable too process focused for me.
Bux may well come good and get us to the promised land.
But he has had more than ample time to do things.
And so far the scoreboard is looking crap for him.
hhhhhh

There is no way Bucks is going to be sacked. When was the last time a coach was sacked whom:
a) the players love and clearly play for;
b) the side is competitive every week, bar a couple of close losses we would be top 4.

Coaches get sacked when their team is losing by 10 plus goals on a fairly consistent basis.

Spot on. The senior team is giving it's members value for money by way of effort, consistency, competitiveness and entertainment (playing attractive, attacking, hard running footy). Every week we know we are more than just a chance to win. We haven't won as many as we would have liked, but its a tough caper. Every team has lost games they would have liked to have won.

Thomsoc goes on about 6 years this and 6 years that. I'm not living in the past, not concerned about 6 years ago. I like what I see now and I am very positive about the future. Bucks is absolutely the right man for the job.

You don't look to the past but need to be open minded and adaptable to change. Melbourne and St. Kilda have gone past us and this year maybe Port and Essendon.

It wasn't the result we wanted but yesterdays loss had nothing to do with any failings from the coach.

Now though it's all about how we respond after the bye and if we have truly improved like some hope then the results should come and Buckley will save his job.

If they don't and we fall in a hole like previous seasons where we've struggled across half of it then his time will be up.

The difficulty might come if we miss finals once again but finish on 11 wins.

I suspect he'll be re-signed in that circumstance given he has the players and we've shown signs of improvement over the last month but God help me we can't seem to help ourselves adjusting the bar of what is his pass mark during a season.

I'm guilty your honour of this once again.

The absurd nativity of your posting is breath taking.
Only a fool would offer Callum Brown selection instead of Kirby as having a substantial impact on why we lost.
Its a pitiful attempt at bagging Bucks, that clearly exposes your lack of insight and credibility.

You have NFI.

And your postings are just sheer Mensa quality aren't they?
Seriously get a life.
Love to go head to head with a < snip > like you but the mods wouldn't allow it.

Amuse yourself to see whether you can hit the jackpot to reach their minimum level.

You are your own worst enemy, and a very easy target.

Maybe think before typing - its laughable that Brown selection over Kirby could be offered as a having an impact on yesterdays result. And to actually suggests its an indictment of Buckley coaching is pure fantasy.

They are your words EXCLUSIVELY no-one elses.

Keep up this thoughtless posting, and it will only invite more criticism.

The only reason you don't want to go head to head is because you would not be able to offer a decent argument, or defend your position.

Buckley is coaching better than any other coach in the AFL this year. With a team missing key forwards and defenders, he has got us performing consistently good football, against just about every team we've played, including last year's Grand finalists as well as top 4 teams in GWS and the Cats. The only reason we are not a top 4 side right now is that we are playing without a centre half forward and (without Reid) a centre half back. Few coaches would be able to organise a team to play so well with these crucial weaknesses, yet Bucks has us in the hunt every single week.

I understand the argument "but he's had 6 years and where are we?", but the past doesn't interest me, only the here and now, and quite frankly I reckon Bucks has evolved into possibly the best coach in the business, easily coaching better than Lyon, Clarkson, Longmire and Beveridge.

If I was the CEO at Collingwood, I'd give Bucks an immediate 2 yr extension, or risk him being grabbed by someone else at the end of this year. Anyone who watched Footy Classified last night would have recognised that Bucks made the other panelists look like complete amateurs with his profound understanding of the game. Maybe Bucks was given the coaching job too early, but in 2017 we are bloody lucky to have him at the helm.

My understanding of the handover, way back when, was that the club would replace an ageing coach with a younger one, sort of like Hawthorn in 1977, who would win premierships on the journey going forward, rather than one flag and a slow decline like Sheedy.

Obviously, whatever your opinion of Malthouse, this never happened. But what is particularly galling is that it has never even looked like happening.

Something is not right, nor has it been for 6 years.

It's as if Footscray have become Collingwood, and Collingwood have become Footscray - obsessed with milestones, Brownlows, favorite sons and gallant losses. Well, it took them 62 years to get their act together.

A famous yet not so successful coach had this to say 20 odd years ago

You have sniped me a number of times in the recent past.
Obviously, you suffer from small man syndrome as you constantly want to put others down.
If you don't like what I post do
1. Don't read them
2. Put me on ignore
But you won't because you are not man enough to do that.

Most people here have no clue about coaching. Coaching in the sense of the word of improving an athlete's performance.

I have seen many coaches who think very little of the athlete and more of themselves.

I have seen very ordinary 'coaches' appear as a genius because they have an amazing talent (the athlete), when in reality it has very little do with the coach.

And I have seen a great coach, who took an athlete from 'zero' to 'good', but not great, and get little to no recognition.

There is only so much a coach can do, and it can take a very long time to achieve results.

Like I said before, the Veruca Salt syndrome.
