I have always wanted him to break through, and it has taken much longer than I expected, but I hope that we are now seeing the light coming over the horizon. The talent base has grown back, and we are consolidating experience, both in AFL games and in terms of playing together. I think we have also benefitted enormously from the commitment, in recent weeks, to go with a smaller forward line. For a long time we used to leak Joe the Goose goals out the back, and this has mostly stopped. I think it is because we have increased our two way run, rather than having several talls lumbering after the ball when it is turned over. Perhaps it took Buckley too long to work out the answer, but it seems that we have done so.

Unfortunately the injury gods are now gathering to spoil some of that consolidation again, but it is not obvious to me that another coach will do better with this list. Unless the wheels fall off, I expect that he will be re-signed for 2018.
The Buckley Curse more like it. It won't make any difference what transpires going forward. The decision has already been made and Buckley isn't going no where.

Need to see more of it and narrowing the gap between our best and worst.

Bucks has had a long time to get this right. Starting with today's game the next block of 5 games will tell us a lot.

I actually think that game-plans, structures and processes are grossly overrated. It's football. It aint rocket science. There's no one way of playing to win. The main thing a coach has to do is get the players playing their guts out and supporting each other. Premiership teams are always imo, the team which plays the hardest and supports each other the most. On these scores, Bucks has had our boys firing ALL YEAR. Only poor goal kicking has let us down and resulted in us losing at least a couple of games. Still, I reckon we can still make the 8. Go Pies!

That is spot on Rude.
There's only 4 teans (Adelaide, gws, cats & port) who've had more scoring shots than us.
Kick straight and we'd be in the top 4 now, let alone the to 8.

You should have read the Lloyd Williams article in yesterday's Herald Sun. The detail is everything, without which he wouldn't have trained any Melbourne Cup winners. So game plans, structures are processes are essential to the arsenal of any AFL coach, none of which I don't think Nathan Buckley ignores.

Whether it's humans or thorough bred horses, sport is sport. It's all in the preparation.

yep.
Bolton has not had 5 and a half years with a great list to begin with.
We have won 3 matches in a row against ordinary sides and the roosters are out there crowing loudly.
Our list is reasonable so we should be aiming for finals.
But the coach won't get us any further or higher.

I'm still here in camp... I'm just biting my tongue waiting to see what will finally happen (after all these years...), I still have massive doubts... in fact they are hardly doubts anymore. But they're right, the two Melbourne games will be make or break.

LOL - and for all your praise of Bolton, Carl are still below us on the ladder.
So your praise above is meaningless.
