We were still decent in 2012, but since then we've been extremely poor.
The Buckley appointment was a mess from the beginning. The club has made a massive mistake by their 5 year plan or what ever it was.
The best thing for Nathan Buckley would have been to take that job he was offered at North. He probably would have become a better coach getting away from Collingwood. We could have stuck with Malthouse and given him the send off he deserved. And who knows, we might have snuck into another Grand Final with our list? And he would have broken Jock McHales record in a Collingwood polo.
We could have always brought Bucks home depending on how things went at North. And even if we did, it would have been a cleaner start for him. Who knows what the list would look like now?
But thats all should-haves.
Right now, we're looking at a bottom 4 finish. Can we afford to go into 2018 without change? No.
I dont hate Nathan Buckley. I have his #5 jumper at home. I have some nice memorabilia of him at home too. I loved him as a child/teenager. I went to see him play countless times. I even went to see him play for Williamstown that time. And I'd love nothing more than to see him win a Premiership as the coach of this club.
But the pain of these week to week efforts has finally broken me. And it hurts.
I still think Bucks has a place in football. Wether that be at another club or in the media. I think he could still become a decent coach, but it's just not going to happen here. The pressure and expectation is just too high. We need to start again.
We should have been smarter back in 2010-11. Let's be smart now. |
I love Nathan Buckley and what he has done for the club. Unfortunately it hasn't worked out for him as our senior coach and he needs to go sooner rather than later, because it doesn't serve anyone's interest to remain at the club. Fortunately there's still a lot to look forward to with the list. Please no more half back flankers. We need KPP's which a better list manager than Hine will provide us with. Still looking forward to 2018. |

After tonight I am even more convinced we will be a better team without Bucks. The first 40 minutes was deplorable. But the third showed what we can do when we move the ball quickly. Our list is not bottom 4 but we let a team that has only won 3 games missing a host of players get 7 goals ahead. What do you reckon a decent team would have done to us after that first quarter. _________________ Human behavioural studies suggest people who use a lot of swear words tend to be more honest & trustworthy. |

I agree with this.
I was expecting to win and we did which is great but I thought we should have been able to handle them from the first bounce comfortably.
This is there bottom out season and with the players they had missing it's a performance while exhilarating in the end pretty much showed in one game the inconsistent nature we've come to expect under Bucks.
While it's great to finally beat the hawks after all this time I'm not convinced what we saw after 1/4 time will become our baseline standard of performance and game style week in week out and until it does we'll continue to waste the talent at our disposal. _________________ He's mad. I think tonight shows that our biggest problem is not the coach, but the flaky attitude of some of our players. They only put their foot to the pedal when they have to. Same team out there tongiht in the first quarter as in the third. |

Johnno75, I don't think the first 40 minutes had much to do with Bucks. More the mind set of the players. As someone said on another thread, they played the first quarter like they were afraid of losing. Whether that's the outside pressure that the media and supporters put on them, I just don't know.
I do think we play better when we are not favourites to win..... less pressure? I'm pretty certain that Bucks would do all he could to try to make them see that every game is a crucial game, but some of them just don't seem to get it. |

Tonight proves he should be sacked tomorrow and whichever assistant took over at half time can have the job!
I like how Buckley blamed the players but the game plan seemed to change from handball handball etc then kick 50m backwards and turn it over in front of Hawks goal to run and kick it long and deep inside 50. look much better playing direct but it doesnt seem to be the first plan? |
