The creator of Footrot Flats.

Quote:
ICONIC New Zealand cartoonist Murray Ball has died aged 78.

Ball was the creator of the famous Footrot Flats cartoon strip, that was made into a movie in 1986. Footrot Flats: The Dog’s Tale was New Zealand’s first feature-length animated film.

Ball reportedly died after a long battle with Alzheimer’s at his home at Gisborne on the North Island.

Poor bastard. It was a sad day for me when he retired from drawing.

Please all stand and doff your hats for the New Zealand national Anthem, starring Wal and The Dog.

I always liked the strips where Dog would be stuck outside in the PISSING rain waiting at the back door, and Wal would bring him inside to dry off and keep warm. No text in most of those cells, but it wasn't required. We got it.

Vale Murray Ball indeed. Genius.

All dogs belong out of the rain!

Sat next to his publisher on the flight to the US on our honeymoon, he autographed a copy of the latest foxtrot flats at the time, still have it somewhere. Rest in peace xx

I've got nearly the complete set somewhere.

Started reading the comic in the Border Morning Mail when I was at school, loved it.
