We have donned the cover when Anthony Rocca was on "AFL LIVE 2004" for the PS2. Collingwood dominated the screen menus for that game too.

And also in 2010 and 2011, when Jolly, Pendles and Swan graced the cover for "AFL Live" and the updated "Game of the year edition" with some St Kilda players.

As far as this new game cover, The Bont has it in the bag.

Lets have a look at the history of AFL/Football video games;

1991: Aussie Rules Footy (NES).
What a classic. And come to think of it, we are also on the cover of this game. Peter Sumich is taking a mark, but Craig Kelly and Shane Morwood can clearly be seen in the action.

A real cult classic.

1996: AFL Finals Fever (PC).
I've never played or owned this game. North Vs Sydney GF on the cover.

1997: AFL 98 (PC).
Shane Crawford on the cover. I've still got this one lying around somewhere. But it was pretty crappy. However, it was developed by EA Sports.

1998: AFL 99 (PS1, PC).
Robert Harvey on the cover. I own this on both PC and PS1. It actually works in the PS3 too. Almost the same as the 98 game, maybe slightly better.

2001: Kevin Sheedy's: AFL Coach 2002 (PC).
Never owned this, but I have played it. You didnt actually control the players, but you "coached them" or told them what to do. I didnt think it was too bad. Obviously Sheedy was on the cover.

2002: AFL Live 2003 (PS2, XBOX, PC).
A digital image of Gary Moorcrofts mark over Brad Johnson on the cover. Millencolins song "Man or Mouse" was in the games opening sequence which was cool.

2003: AFL Live 2004 (PS2, XBOX, PC).
Anthony Rocca and Justin Leppitsch on the cover. This game, i think, is the best one they've released so far. The controlls were easy and there was a couple of cool mini games included. (Including a similar set up to Lous Handball from TSFS).

2004: AFL Live: Premiership Edition (PS2, XBOX, PC).
I never owned or played this one. I think it's an upgraded version of the previous game. No player on the cover.

2005: AFL Premiership 2005 (PS2, XBOX, PC).
I remember this game coming out in September when the season was finishing. So as soon as we had the draft and trade period, the roster was old. Cant remember too much about this game tbh. A pic of the MCG playing surface on the cover.

2006: AFL Premiership 2006 (PS2).
A poor digital image of all the club captains contesting for a mark on the cover.

2007: AFL Premiership 2007 (PS2).
The premiership cup dons the cover. Both the 2006 and 2007 games felt very sloppy and the graphics were not to die for.

2009: AFL Challenge (PSP).
Never owned or played. An image of Richmond Vs Carlton on the cover.

2009: AFL Mascot Manor (Nintendo DS).
A cartoon image of all the mascots on the cover. I do actually own this, but it is not very good. You just run around as the mascots gathering things. But I guess its targeted towards the kids market.

2011: AFL Live (PS3, 360, PC).
2012: Game of the Year Edition.
A cool digital image from the 2010 GF on the cover (Jolly, Swan and Pendles Vs Saints). This one wasnt too bad. The first AFL game to have online game play.

2011: AFL (Wii).
Judd taking a grab over Cam Wood on the cover. Dawes and Jack Anthony can also be seen. Never played or owned, but my gut feeling is that this was not a very good game.

2013: AFL Live 2 (PS3, 360, Mobile).
2014: Gold Edition.
Digital Sam Reid on the cover. I liked this one, because you could play the VFL teams. This one came out when the PS3 was wrapping up and the PS4 was coming out. There was some DLC, but perhaps they should have waited 6 months and released it on the newer systems.

But again, it wasn't a great game, especially when you look at the other sports games out there.

But yeah, we've been on plenty of the covers.

the afl needs a strong video game to help with attracting new people to the sport.

Voted 3 times for Treloar on various devices.
A big pre-season building for this keyboard warrior!

This brings back memories of my childhood. I remember playing AFL 99 up until 2001. The mascots were still the highlight of the game! Razz

AFL Live 2003 was a disappointment with very little features outside the typical exhibition game and playing a one-season mode. AFL Live 2004 had many features and was generally a great game for its time so I agree with you there. Premiership Edition was a merely continuation incorporating the 2004 season but had very little difference to AFL Live 2004 so I didn't bother purchasing the game at the time.

I had very high hopes for AFL Premiership 2005 after it's buildup and the switch to Sony after Acclaim Entertainment went bust, but I was left disappointed with the game. AFL Premiership 2006 was the last AFL game I purchased on Playstation and wasn't too different to the 2005 version.

Despite the obvious shortcomings of these video games, they were still very enjoyable and addictive to play at the time.

So Bont ends up sharing the cover to appeal to the SA/NSW market.

Still no official release date. Only that it'll be available "first half of the 2017 season".
