this may sound conspiracy theory... could it be something deeper then an injury? didnt he lose desire for the game a few years back?

Elliot's foot injury included bruising to bone. So it will take longer to fully heal than just a sprain.

He needs to fully heal his foot because if he doesn't he'd been inclined to naturally favor the other leg when running, and that could put his recently healed spine injury under duress - possibly career ending.

So slowly, slowly it goes. Although I'm sure he could go out and play now. Its just a risk management thingy.

EDIT. With Wells I suspect the club is putting him through the same remedial processes that Reid went through to him right after protracted soft tissue injuries. So Wells might be getting bits and pieces of treatment from the German witch doctor and the ballet trainer. Again, the idea is to get him right for the long term. Whatever secret they discovered to get Reid right it has worked very well. So hopefully it will work for Wells too.

Don't think so.

The inconsistencies with expected return dates have also been mentioned in the OP.

Is the club cribbing with Jordan De Goey? They said 3 weeks with a knuckle injury and the same again as suspension. That's 6 weeks to me, not 5-6 weeks as stated by the club.

^ possibly, but if the knuckle is not badly broken, then 2.5 weeks is quite possible.

It would be interesting to create a single table listing the player, date of injury, initial indication of expected recovery period and actual recovery period. My gut feeling tells me that the results would beat least plus 50%

Not using the club's report (dodgy though it may be)...?
