I don't think people have a problem with the drafting of Mayne and Wells it's just the price tag.

4@500k seems excessive in both years and salary for Mayne while anything more than a 2 year offer for Wells is very risky given 2 out of his last 3 seasons have been ruined by injury.

Understatement. Honestly, both these recruitment's (at said price) smack of desperation - imho.

Wasn't too bad tonight. Laid five tackles, which was the 3rd highest for the team and kicked a nice goal in the second quarter.

Still a lot to improve on, but it wasn't a terrible performance by any means.

Someone said when we drafted him that he had an irreparable flaw with his kicking and could no longer kick goals.

i was right behind that goal he kicked, straight as a die. his range is 45 max but within that, he can kick straight

He has got some guts and really had a crack tonight, his hair also makes him look really skilful.

Mayne had a pretty reasonable game tonight. It takes a while to settle into a new team and let's take it into account that we were playing last year premiers.

Let's be fai on this guy and give hi me the chance to settle in before we can assess him on his performance

Agree totally. Thought he had a really good debut tonight, even more so than Travis Cloke for them. Really thought he had a significant impact in our forward line, under conditions when he was often alone in applying tackling pressure.

You never hear those comments. Though I guess Gaz and Scully were at least honest.

Wells also took the bigger contract offer... nothing more, nothing less.

I'm not convinced on Mayne though. Handy utility, but I only have him as a backup at this stage, behind:

Moore - obvious reasons
Elliott - more ability and scoreboard potential
Fasolo - should emerge this year, more scope for development, great kick & mark
WHE - faster, better skills, more development potential
White - more mobile, faster, taller. Better for balance
Cox - helps Moore, better balance. draws tallest defender, always gets free kicks and can mark...

cant have Moore, Cox and Whitew in the same forward line. will get slaughtered on the rebound.

Most likely one of White or Cox wont get a game and Mayne or Blair will get the nod as the defensive forward.

"cant have Moore, Cox and Whitew in the same forward line. will get slaughtered on the rebound."

<Sigh> This should have been really obvious BEFORE the game.

Anyone with a clue would know Mayne was a poor in for Aish, a runner, with Cox is the same forward line. Our selection didn't help Mayne one bit last night.

Pretty happy with Mayne's first game. Put his hand up many times last night.

I thought he was below par.

I just don't see this defensive pressure, in fact I'm seeing the opposite.

He looks to have limited endurance or the willingness to apply the 2nd efforts.

1 good kick, 1 miss and 1 didn't make the distance is what I thought I saw.

I thought that Blair ran harder, got to more footy and applied more pressure.

^Seriously? I was impressed with how much chasing and harrassing he did.
Better game than Blair who fumbled, muffed kicks, and got in the way of our talls all night.

Serious.

I spent half the game at the Ponsford end and the 2nd half on the wing.
I'll bet you Blair covered more ground.

Im not arguing who's game was better.

I don't comment on Blair because he confuses me.

I'm just saying Mayne was below par. 4/10

I thought he was pretty good, but he always seems to have breathing difficulties, i don't think he can draw air through the nose.
