With the move to this more tech based player rating system it made me wonder how sport has changed
For years the best judgement was the eye test and it seemed to work
Now we have number boffins crunching endless numbers through a keyboard with alga rhythms and history as it’s only judge
Now I’m all for numbers as I love them but is really the best way forward ?
Have we in Australia decided that everything they do in the USA is the best way ?
So I reached out to a mate who is currently adapting a USA system to suit Australian sport namely AFL
There is already several systems in use at clubs currently but this one he’s reworking some of the parameters to fit a changing style of footy the way it’s played now and with a view to being able to adapt it to changes in the future
He sent me a copy and it’s an immense piece of work
Even for a number lover like me the variations and parameters you can use makes the possibility endless for clubs

Just to satisfy my own curiosity I ran most of the players on our list through to see the results
Due to the commercial sensitivity of the program I can’t share all the results in any detail but I’m happy to share some information if anyone is interested

If there’s a interest among nicks I’ll share some results if not we can can just discuss the changes these systems make and are they beneficial to our club

Great stuff. After crunching the numbers can you tell me how many premierships we’re going to win in the next 5 years?

BTW is Algarythm any relation to the Billings rhythm? 😉

My stats say 6 - I think we still need to work through some teething problems.

No mate just a former account turn computer programmer/coder/program designer
It’s not for drafting purposes it’s aimed at retention and recruitment

We would have had a extra in the cupboard except for the ineptness of 1 T. Langdon and his brain farts 😂😂😂😂
In fairness he can’t be blamed it was the selection committees fault by selecting him in the first place so they can share the blame only with him
