I'm sure this has been done before.

But it was in the paper the other day about the matchups of these two magnificent teams.

Forgetting that the 2010 side has 2 extra bench players, who would win?

2010, because it's the only Collingwood flag I've witnessed in person.

Wasn't born until 1994.

I'd give me left nut to have that 1990 team on the park right now!

I was 23 when we won that flag, it was so sweet, I'm getting goose bumps just writing this post.

I was 25. I had my 9 month old son sitting on my knee for much of the first half .

Stupid as it may seem, the 2018 team would slaughter the 1990 team, the 2010 team would narrowly win

27, best day of my life bar none! I will never ever forget it! I watched 3 losses live before the win, slept at the ground for tickets 1 year! The Richmond flogging! 1990 was the impossible dream! Went to the ground after the game, got home at 3am! Simply the best!

As good as the 2010 side was, the 1990 side would win hands down. Daicos, Brown and Millane were in another league altogether, and the ruck combination of Monkhorst and Manson would beat Jolly and Leroy. Overall, the 1990 side had much more pure mongrel in it too.

I left the ground at 4 am and somehow had half a bottle of bourbon with me, Taxi driver pulled over near the yarra falls and he said where to "I said Heathmont , Canterbury RD. Taxi driver who was wearing a pies scarf said "You beauty, I live in Bayswater". Turned the metre off I finished the bourbon off and he found me a can of cold VB and dropped me at home for about a third of the fair. Was back the next day and my mate lost his fiancee and next thing she is on stage singing American Pie with Pants.

1990 in a canter.

Look at some of these names across Midfield, Forward and Back:

Monkhorst, Manson, Francis, Russell, Shaw, McGuane, Millane, Wright
Brown, Daicos, Barwick, Crosisca
Kelly, Morwood, Christian, Gayfer, Banks

Tough as all f too.

Easy win for 2010. The 1990 team would have struggled with the 2010 'press'.

The emotion of 1990 was unique as it opened up (and closed) all the wounds of those lost GF and Finals in general. Special.

I was scheduled to attend a wedding that day in 1990.... yeah, right!
After so many failed attempts I watched the impossible happen! I was so nervous that when Matthews came down the race and began raising his arms in jubilation I was screaming at him "It's too soon! You'll jinx us" Even after the siren went and Pants tossed the ball into the air I was still concerned that it could be taken off us, somehow. I remember making my way to Victoria Park and being swept up in so much emotion. What an amazing day.

The team of 2010 was something else, they were dominant. There was a feeling about that team, that year. I remember feeling a similar way in 1990 but didn't dare dream. But in 2010 I was convinced we would take the prize so I purchased tickets (corporate package that cost me a kidney) and flew from Qld to witness the glory. I attended the drawn Grand Final and left numb. How did we not win that day!?

Of course, as they say, the rest is history.

It's difficult to compare eras. The 1990 team were tough and uncompromising but the 2010 team were slick and well-oiled.

Very different games in very different eras. I would give a lot to be able to take the game back to those days. Tribal, more emotion, more passion, it meant a lot more to me then as a 27 year old that had only ever known failure as a Pies supporter.

In 1990 I was in line overnight for GF tickets as a member but in the morning they were sold out before the line had moved more than 2 metres. I was then fortunate enough to be given 2 tickets by an official from another club who decided not to go.

I still have a framed and signed copy of the 1990 premiership photo on my office wall.

Which rules would apply? How many umpires? Would Micky Gayfer be allowed to suffocate whoever hadthe misfortune to be opposed to him?

The 1990 team would have struggled with the press. That was primarily the team under Matthews that introduced the zone defence on kick ins, a novelty at the time. Tactics have come a long way since then.

And, the 2010 team would have struggled with the physical tactics employed by Kelly, Banks, Millane, Barwick, Monkey and others. No frees for chopping arms, or accidentally punching heads in marking duels in those days.
