Post subject: We need a home ground for our women's and vfl team | |

Holden centre is way too small based tonight's crowd.
I hate playing home games at our arch enemies ground ikon park.
Maybe it's time to do up Victoria park for our women and vfl team ? _________________ Go Pies...Premiers 2010 |

The problem is, the Yarra Council were intransigent when we asked for a VFL home final at Vic Park four months in advance and still turned us down, so they probably won't be any more amenable this time around to move games on short notice. Even if it is not an election year...
So, for the time being, we're at Olympic Park Oval. But, for the 2018 season, we should seriously explore the idea of playing at Vic Park. Depends on how the strong the continued support is. If crowds like/comparable to last night keep turning up, we'll need a bigger venue... _________________ I am vengeance. I am the night. I am MagpieBat. |

Unless these women games are played prior to the Senior teams Mens games, as were the once great Reserves, I cant see this comp lasting, will fall over very quickly once the novelty wears off. _________________ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.

But a Women's team is very different, councils love throwing money at women's sport |

In this case, their fear of Turner and Abbott Street resident wrath probably out-weighs their love of women's sport... _________________ I am vengeance. I am the night. I am MagpieBat. |

Spot on. Club doesn't need to put more money into it. Holden centre ground will be more than ample in time. |

Last night was a novelty act.
First game of AFLW ever, Collingwood v Carlton, hyped to the bejeesus.
It will be interesting to see how crowds go over the rest of the round let alone rest of the season.
I'd expect once the initial novelty has worn off, crowd numbers will drop significantly but stablilise at a figure around 3-5000 max _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Yep, I think you are right Stui.
At last nights game there were lots of people there who did not follow either team. I saw quite a few groups who were from local women's teams. There would also have been those who were supporters of women's sport in general.
Was the perfect scenario for a full house - 1st ever game, nice evening, no other sport on, free entry. _________________ If you are foolish enough to be contented, don't show it, but just grumble with the rest. - Jerome K Jerome |

Might be a Good Idea because Yarra Council hate us Playing at Vic Park.
Might have to put Stands in at Olympic Park so we can have a Descent Crowd there _________________ I am Da Man |

Given that most (all?) games have free entry to them, including last night's, yes, it will be interesting to see what happens with crowds.
Of course, the AFL could care less so long as people actually tune-in on TV. _________________ Match in the gas tank...

Here's the obvious solution;
[img][/img]
To be serious though Eddie's stadium idea isn't that silly.
1. It's in a central location, with access to public transport of all kinds, unlike Princes Park which is a joke.
2. You could use the new stadium as the main court for the Australian Open. Rod Laver Arena has been outgrown.
3. It could be used for smaller drawing games, with the top deck unopened and the bottom two decks designed to hold 30k.
We need a new stadium, and it doesn't have to be a boutique one. 55-60k is about the right size, because it would then be able to host 90% of AFL matches.
Get it done Ed. |

I would not put it past Eddie doing that at all but Wouldn't the Capacity at Least be 60-70k IF we want to play AFL Games There _________________ I am Da Man |

Let's see if the AWFL team make a profit and isn't a money pit before we invest in a friggin stadium for them. _________________ Fighting against the objectification of woman. |
