Having been appointed stand-in captain, Wade was compelled to withdraw from the side after pulling up sore from training on match eve.
Aaron Finch took over the leadership duties in Auckland, while Peter Handscomb dusted off his wicketkeeping gloves. _________________ Donny.

Marcus Stoinis came to the wicket with Australia teetering, on 5/54. Soon, it was 6/67.
Supported by Faulkner (25), Cummins (36) and Starc (3), Stoinis, in just his second ODI, hit 11 sixes in an amazing innings, of 146 n.o.
Needing 19 to win, in the 47th. over, he smashed 2 consecutive sixes before Hazlewood was run out, at the non strikers end. NZ won by 6 runs.
Stoinis scored all of the 54 runs, for the 10th. wicket. _________________ Donny.

Stats:
146 Marcus Stoinis' score at No. 7 - the second highest in that position in ODIs. It was the highest for Australia, though, passing James Faulkner's 116 against India in Bangalore.
146 and 3-49 Stoinis was the first Australian cricketer to score a hundred and take three or more wickets in an ODI. Andrew Symonds and Shane Watson came close when they scored a century and took two wickets.
1 Higher score than Stoinis' 146 by a batsman at No. 6 or lower coming in earlier than Stoinis did: Kapil Dev's 175 against Zimbabwe. Kapil came to bat when India was 5/17 and helped India score 266. Stoinis started his innings when Australia were 5/54 and helped Australia score 280.
11 Stoinis' sixes in his 146 - the second most in an innings for Australia and the joint second while chasing in an ODI. His 11 sixes were the most by a batsman in defeat.
3 Partnerships of 50 or more in ODIs in which one batsman made no runs. Hazlewood made 0 in the stand of 54 with Stoinis for the tenth wicket at Eden Park. Kemar Roach had made 0 in a stand of 51 against India in 2013, and Romesh Kaluwitharana had made 0 in an opening stand of 70 against Pakistan in 1996.
1999 The last time a batsman at No. 7 or lower made more than 50% of the team's runs: Stoinis scored 146 out of Australia's 280. Ricardo Powell had scored 76 out of 137 for West Indies against India in Toronto. The only other such occurrence in ODIs was in 1990, when Wasim Akram made 86 out of 162 against Australia at the MCG.
90: Number of runs by which Stoinis outscored Australia's top six - the highest such difference for a No. 7 batsman in ODIs. Shaun Pollock had scored 130 to the 51 scored by the Africa XI's top six in against the Asia XI in Bangalore in 2007. The next highest is MS Dhoni, when he outscored India's top six by 52 against Pakistan in Chennai in 2013
213 Runs added by Australia's last four wickets - the most for any team in an ODI chase. _________________ Donny.

We're getting better - we stayed in this one right to the end, even without heroics from Stoinis. |

NZ 2/155 from 29 overs - on target for 320-350, depending upon how the middle order goes from here. |

Australia has done a reasonable job of applying the brakes. NZ 4/203 after 37.2. It stills looks like a 320 score but less like a 350, at the moment. |

5/207 from 39. If they can get Taylor (86 from 83), they could run through the tail. Big "if", though. |
