Have to say, I always thought that the lower courts were merely holding back the tide. The fact that even two of the ‘left’ justices voted in favour suggests that, no matter how racist and prejudicial the ban is, it’s ultimately perfectly constitutional. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

What race is the travel ban targetting? |

The "travel ban" hasn't been "upheld". The US Supreme Court has merely indicated that the injunction against the ban was wrongly granted, in the sense that there want any sufficient basis for an injunction. It will be months before the Supreme Court rules on the lawfulness or otherwise of the "travel ban". |

^ Thanks for the clarification, P4S, I missed that nuance.

Mostly Arabs, apparently, with a few Persians and Africans thrown in. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

I believe that travel ban also includes North Korea and Venezuela. |

I'm still waiting for those opposing the travel ban to condemn 16 muslim-majority countries banning Israeli citizens from visiting their respective countries.
The silence is deafening. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023

You'll be waiting a while, I imagine - because no-one much expects the Arabs and Israelis to behave civilly toward each other. |

Not all 16 countries are Arab countries.
This includes Iran, Bangladesh, Brunei and Malaysia. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023

I condemn it, sure. Saudi Arabia also stones people to death and pushes gay people off buildings, but one expects a little better from a wealthy secular democracy. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

They are not missing anything in Brunei. You cannot even take grog in. I flew there and Royal Brunei airlines do not have alcohol. BUT. They will give you glasses, ice and mixers on the plane as long as there is nothing left by the time you arrive. I grabbed 2 half bottles of red and a about 8 minibottles of various stuff and by the time I got there I was hammered. Slept all the way to Bangkok.
Countries like Malaysia won't even let you in if you have a stamp from Israel in your passport. I imagine politicians must travel on diplomatic passports. It is the reason many people have dual passports in the arms and energy industries. _________________ Annoying opposition supporters since 1967. |

So you're happy for people who've grown up in that culture and believe in it to come here? That's part of the cultural assimilation problem isn't it? _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

An increase in arm sales is no doubt behind this decision. Any war is good for the US economy. |
Interestingly, this has actually been law in the US since 95, previous POTUS's have just dodged it.
