The US military response was basically akin to a warning shot across the bow.

Unfortunately though Syria is such a mess with all sides of the battle not being above the use of chemical weapons to serve a purpose.

No easy answer to all this I'm afraid.

I don't necessarily disagree with a targeted air strike on Assad's military bases – indeed, I kind of wish it had been done five years ago. The problem is that this attack seems like such a knee-jerk, erratic approach from an administration that was essentially supporting Assad a couple of months ago. It doesn't bode well for the future, particularly now that Russia are back in the bad books.

What exactly is the strategy here? Go in harder on Syria and start a full on proxy war with Russia and Iran? Are the war hawk Republicans in the administration just itching to bomb someone, somewhere? Starting to think it might be a miracle if we manage to get through the next four years alive. Shudder to think of what great ideas Trump has for North Korea...

I'd be surprised if the US even under Trump would consider a military attack on Nth Korea.

To much is unknown and they're just bonkers enough to do as they've threatened and launch any nukes in there arsenal and conduct a devastating attack on Sth Korea.

It would take some serious intelligence and arsenal to take out there supposed nuclear ability and even then a ground invasion of Sth Korea and ballistic missile attack on a country like Japan would be inevitable unless overwhelming force was used and used quickly and unless nuclear weapons were involved they'd see the build up of forces occurring and probably act first.

If Russia respond with constraint then likely this bombing will be a one off at this stage.

Welcome to Planet Trump, the bizarro world.

Laughing

Trump supporters are cracking the sads, and many of his enemies are supporting his actions.

Quote:
SOME of Donald Trump’s most loyal campaign supporters are criticising his decision to strike Syria, charging him with breaking his promise to keep the US out of another war in the Middle East.

Commentators on the far right have also criticised him for launching the strike without seeking congressional approval first — something he said on Twitter in 2013 would be a “big mistake.”

Quote:
However, some of Mr Trump’s traditional adversaries have given support for the decision to launch the strike.

On the Democratic side, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer offered praise for the military action, claiming it was the “right thing to do.”

Quote:
House Minority leader Nancy Pelosi also gave mild approval for the attack, issuing a statement that called it “a proportional response to the regime’s use of chemical weapons.”

Yep, the boy is predictable.

This is all about Trump wanting to assert his macho dominance and put the US back at the top of the pecking order. It's a high-stakes gamble and one he's shown little capacity to pull off.

Things are going to get ugly very quickly if someone doesn't rein him in.

Trumps own business interests and love of the almighty dollar is probably the main cause for hope things wont escalate with Russia.

If you're asking if I'm aware of the limits of presidential power and the various institutions that restrain it, then yes, I am. If you're asking whether I believe in the existence of the Illuminati, then that's a different story. Razz
